Light Near the Tabnernacle?

Today, at mass, I was sitting in the section near the Tabernacle. At the end of mass, the altar server doused both candles on either side of the Tabernacle and I noticed that the votive candle, mounted on the wall near it, was out. Isn’t there supposed to be a candle burning constantly to show that Jesus is present?

I asked one of the ushers after mass and he said he didn’t know.

Yes, but sometimes by oversight it (the sanctuary lamp) may go out. If you notice it out, mention it to the sacristan or priest so they can take care of it.

Seems to me a certain usher shouldn’t be one.

Yes next time this happens let the priest know. He will either replace the red candle with a new one or say “The Blessed Sacraemnt is not reserved in that Tabernacle because no one is at this parish during the week” or something like that. This is becoming more common.

We have a guy with downs syndrome that is an usher. He is VERY GOOD at his job. He wouldn’t know anything about a sanctuary Lamp.

An usher doesn’t need to be a theologian or liturgist.

Good Grief…some people.!

Because someone doesn’t know that the sanctuary Lamp is out or what one is disqualifies them from being an Usher!??!??!
