As for Rush, I will continue to listen to him and laugh and think and be grateful for his voice. Did you hear his latest parody today, where they took Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA” and had Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Ted Kennedy, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson singing anti-American lyrics to it? It was hilarious.

Rush is a Protestant. In most Protestant dominations, there is not a theology of redemptive suffering.

I really think Rush, as well as most people, confuse suffering and misery. Just like they confuse pleasure with joy. You can suffer without being miserable. In fact, I believe we are called to do just that. Suffer in JOY.

Consider the desperately poor regions of the world, where suffering is greater than most in the U.S. can even imagine. There you will find many people, who are enduring their suffering with joy in their hearts.

Then consider the fantastically wealthy people of the world who take their own lives to end the misery they feel inside.

Of course I don’t mean to imply that poverty necessarily makes one happy or that wealth necessarily makes one miserable.

Again. I think what Rush MEANT is right on, even if he didn’t say it correctly. You may have to suffer in this life. You don’t have to be miserable.

Personally I stopped listening to Rush since he made all the jokes about drug addicts and then became one himself. I prefer the other Rush-Canadian rock band.

I don’t listen to Rush. Or any talk radio. They are not giving information they are trying to entertain and failing miserably. I don’t believe in censorship but I got Sirius radio to listen to some of the liberal talk for a laugh as well as the conservative laughter. To me they are same thing from different perspectives. Both just whine and complain about the other. That’s why I prefer the music in the end.

Yes, but the difference is that Rush did not go seeking out the pain killers…he was prescribed them for back pain and was addicted from the initial prescriptions. Which is kind of sad that he thinks there is no redemptive value to suffering, considering how much he could have offered up his own suffering.

I don’t listen to Rush. Or any talk radio. They are not giving information they are trying to entertain and failing miserably.

I disagree respectfully…some of them do inform, like Laura Ingraham, Al Kresta, and Rush back in the day, and the entertainment is a by-product of their style. I listen to music too, but if it’s information you are looking for, are you finding it in music more than talk??

There’s always hope that one day Rush may ‘see the light’ in terms of offering it up.
