Hiya…and God Bless,

Was asked the following question by a Mormon…

If Linus was head of the Church, how come God gave John the revelation and NOT the leader of the Church?

Any good responses out there?

God Bless,

First, because John was an apostle (the one Jesus loved). Second, not all the Popes had divine revelations and not all divine revelations were limited to the Holy Fathers (St. Therese, St. Francis, etc). I hope that helps you God Bless.

And third, maybe God just didn’t like that old blanket Linus always seemed to be carrying around. 😉

It really doesn’t matter why God gave the vision to John rather than anyone else, and there is no logical reason to make a case that it should have been granted to Linus, the successor of Peter. God’s wisdom is beyond us…we merely trust in His word.

John A. T. Robinson, the late Anglican scholar, wrote a book called “Redating the New Testament.” In it he concluded that all of the books of the NT were written before the destruction of Jerusalem in A.D. 70.

Peter and Paul died in Nero’s persecutions, probably between 64 and 67. It might be that the NT was complete by the time of Peter’s death (only after which Linus became pope).

King David was a man after God’s own heart but God gave relevations to a prophet who would then speak to the King. Using the logic of the above Protestant God should have always spoked directly to King David.

Linus was my Confirmation name; I knew he was martyred and later I learned that the restated the merits of women being veiled at Mass. Obviously a solid man.
