Dear brothers and sisters,
Thanks to all of you again for all of your thoughtful responses.
This morning (I live in Oman), after Mass, I spoke to my parish priest. I told him that I have a habit of lipping the words of the Consecration and was concerned whether it was proper. He told me that because these words are the words of Jesus, it is not proper to murmur or lip them because they are reserved by the Church to the priest alone.
He added – probably because of the mutual esteem in which we hold one another – that if the Spirit moves you to lip the words, it should not concern you, but you should not intentionally do it.
For me, then, the issue is resolved, and I shall control my own actions to ensure that I do not give the appearance of lipping any words reserved to the celebrant of the Mass.
God bless you all!
David
