I need someone’s help, I would be very interested to find a list of sins from the Catholic church’s point of view.

You may show categories such as the 10 commandments, but also like smoking, using contraceptive devices and the like. I have not been able to find any such list anywhere.

Does anybody know of any sites that would show these?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
Robin

Smoking and contraception are in the 10 commandments Robin. Where do you think they are?

Why is smoking a sin? Excuse my ignorance but I never realized until recently that smoking is a sin. Where did you get that? Is it because its an addiction? If so, then drug addiction and gambling are sins…right?

Please explain as I’m kinda confused on the matter.

Dear Robin,

If you know using tobacco products may kill you and you use them, you are making a decision to destroy the body God gave you. If your parents gave you a knew TV for your birthday would you watch it in a bathtub. No, you would take care of it.

Anytime you make a sane decision to go directly against God’s will it is a sin. Of course, some sins are larger than others but I think you get the point.

ybiC,
Trevor 👍

The mere act of using tobacco is not in and of itself sinful. Immoderate use of it would be. Gambling is not in and of itself a sin either.

Here is a good link, but keep in mind that this is a personal opinion of one priest- it is by no means binding. Also- this indicates things that are grave matter- but does not take into account whether or not someone has acred freely or with full knowledge.Examination of Concsience

One of the very neat things about the Catholic Church is that all of its teaching are open and public. Read the Catechism of the Catholic Church. It not only tells what is sinful, but why!

YES!!!👍

and above all… the most important sin to avoid is the dreaded “be kind and considerate to all members of Catholic Answers Forums”! Yep, that’s a cardinal virtue… Very hard for many of us in these forums… especially me:thumbsup:

A good examination of conscience guide is your best bet. On the smoking issue, immoderate use of anything that harms yourself (smoking, alcohol, even food) is a sin, too, because it harms yourself.

As an aside, you might want to read “Liberalism is a Sin” which is a very old book available for download from the internet. Interesting, in that is shows how liberalism is a sin of ignoring or abetting, or permitting others to sin. Just because you don’t do it directly, does not mean it is right to allow it…
