Liturgical Abuse?

After the consecration of the bread and wine into the Body and Blood of our Savior, while father was holding them both towards heaven and singing Through Him, with Him…etc, the organist started singing and playing the organ with him. I was shocked, besides the fact that it was disruptive to my husband and I. Is this allowed or is this part of the liturgical abuse problem. I would like to know for sure before I speak to father about it.
Thanks,
maggiec

No this is not allowed and is an abuse. Those words are for the priest alone.

Chapter 151 from the General Instruction of the Roman Missal:

… " At the end of the Eucharistic Prayer, the priest takes the paten with the host and the chalice and elevates them both while alone singing or saying the doxology, Per ipsum (Through him). At the end the people make the acclamation, Amen. Then the priest places the paten and the chalice on the corporal. "

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your help. I am assuming that the music is not allowed either. I will contact father about this because it is very disturbing.
Thank you so much

This just re-emphasises to me what the response of the Catholic faithful should be. Get educated, get vocal, get involved. Defending Holy Mother Church from these attacks is a call to arms. The next crusade needs to be within the Church. If orthodox Catholics who wish to be orthopraxic in their faith lives would all flood the parishes and volunteer as: catechists, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, lectors, Altar boys, pastoral assistants, committee members, etc… the occurances of liturgical and other abuses would greatly diminish.

I admire your willingness to get involved Maggiec. Be prepared for some people to take your involvement as a personal attack. My family and I will pray for you.

Steve

Thank you for your prayers. I spoke with Deacon Kennedy today who was surprised that this had taken place and said it was not allowed. I will write a formal complaint to Father tonight.
Your support is really appreciated,

Maggiec:
I think what you are doing by taking it up discretely with the priest is the right course of action. Hopefully, he will do something to stop it. If all fails, you may have to see the bishop, but only as a last resort. I will pray for you, your priest, and your organist.
