Liturgical Abuse

Mysty,

I dont know if you have ever gone to both masses, but in my single days, the Novus Ordo, or Mass as it was all I went to growing up as there were no Traditional Masses as they were banned, I committed quite a few abuses myself. I talked, laughed in the back of the church and got quite a few phone numbers from single girls, some of whom I dated for quite a while, before I met my wonderful wife, not in Church but totally centered around it. Lets say that to this day the NO mass is prone to abuses, as I was one of those who abused it myself, not to mention the priests and others who were not following the liturgical norms. For me Saturday evening Mass and Sunday was a pick up place, as the entire neighborhood met there for 5PM mass on Saturday, some of the teenagers were already drinking beers in the Parking lot before mass, and then went in and after mass all went into town. The shaking of the hands I feel just again allows the individual to take their mind off of the purpose they are there for. All of these things I have since confessed and feel bad about. I recently asked our Priest why no one ever said anything to us or the kids now in the back, as I am middle aged and he said that he was happy they were there to begin with. So that is where we are today in our Church, the Church happy that anyone even attends. I dont have the answers, but we need to do something as I Love my church and the Pope very much, but I think he may not know exactly what is going on here in the US. Just a thought.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but it is norms, not opinions which determine whether or not there is an abuse.

Hmmmm, just sitting there, reflecting, praying, worshipping our Lord, kneeling to receive his body…what a Novel thought!
Sweetheart, this is a test. You listed 5 things. Which one does not belong at a common pre-Counciliar Low Mass? C’mon, answer Katie’s question.
And as far as shaking hands, when I look at pictures of the Last supper, never saw Jesus or any of the Apostles shaking hands there. If I have one huge problem with the Novus Ordo Mass it is the shaking of the hands, where did that come from?
Terra,

People are going to think I am paying you to set me up for these easy responses. When you look at pictures of the Last Supper you don’t see anyone shaking hands??? Are you saying there was a 13th Apostle? After all, someone had to be holding the camera.

We won, you lost. ha ha 😃 😃 😛 :yup: :clapping: :dancing: :rotfl:
you’re really 12, aren’t you, come on, fess up.

What did you win, or what did I lose???

You confuse me. I was talking about the New Mass. As far as a Low Mass, I have attended many and can recite it by heart. There is no singing responses and all responses are by two altar boys and not by the Sisters or Chorus at the low mass. The 3 hail mary’s, Hail Holy Queen, and the Prayer to St Michael the Arch angel are all in the Low Mass and not the high mass, and for sure not in the New Mass, which is a shame as far as I am concerned. Did I answer your question as I am confused???

Actually according to some in Rome that have contacted our little Catholic activist group, this is quite true. You’ve got the libs and the rad-Trads complaining - sometimes even about the same bishop or priest and Rome doesn’t always know what to believe. This is why it’s great to send them hard evidence instead of just writing to complain. Rome was very responsive to our diocese when someone sent them a multi-media CD-rom with pictures of clown masses, letters from our Bishop’s own hand, etc.

Maybe I misread you. In response to my post about Low Mass you responded on the virtues of:
  1. just sitting there,
  2. reflecting,
  3. praying,
  4. worshipping our Lord,
  5. kneeling to receive his body.
You do realize that (as they say on the SAT test), one of these does not belong with the pre-conciliar Low Mass.

We’ll discuss your pictures of the last Supper later.
