Dr. Bombay:
I didn’t realize we had a spokesman for the Holy See posting on our board.

My apologies, Eminence. :tiphat:
Try actually reading RS. Unless the “abuses” (and not everything is a “liturgical abuse”) fall into the following two catagories, good luck with the Vatican responding:

"Graviora delicta

[172.] Graviora delicta against the sanctity of the Most August Sacrifice and Sacrament of the Eucharist are to be handled in accordance with the ‘Norms concerning graviora delicta reserved to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith’,[280] namely:

a) taking away or retaining the consecrated species for sacrilegious ends, or the throwing them away;[281]

b) the attempted celebration of the liturgical action of the Eucharistic Sacrifice or the simulation of the same;[282]

c) the forbidden concelebration of the Eucharistic Sacrifice with ministers of Ecclesial Communities that do not have the apostolic succession nor acknowledge the sacramental dignity of priestly Ordination;[283]

d) the consecration for sacrilegious ends of one matter without the other in the celebration of the Eucharist or even of both outside the celebration of the Eucharist.[284]
  1. Grave Matters
[173.] Although the gravity of a matter is to be judged in accordance with the common teaching of the Church and the norms established by her, objectively to be considered among grave matters is anything that puts at risk the validity and dignity of the Most Holy Eucharist: namely, anything that contravenes what is set out above in nn. 48-52, 56, 76-77, 79, 91-92, 94, 96, 101-102, 104, 106, 109, 111, 115, 117, 126, 131-133, 138, 153 and 168. Moreover, attention should be given to the other prescriptions of the Code of Canon Law, and especially what is laid down by canons 1364, 1369, 1373, 1376, 1380, 1384, 1385, 1386, and 1398."

You obviously haven’t a clue about what is and is not a liturgical abuse, as others have pointed out. So it’s very likely that your opinion of what the Vatican would or wouldn’t respond to is equally off the mark.

The OP was asking what to do about liturgical abuse. I merely offered a suggestion. What the bishop or the Holy See does after they view the video, I really can’t say. And neither can you.

It’s almost laughable to hear some people drone on and on about “liturgical abuses.” While they certainly are common in some locations, many are not in fact “abuses.”

Read RS. The Vatican* ain’t *gonna get involved when EMsHC surround an altar. On the other hand, they certainly will get involved if a pastor is selling consecrated hosts to the local members of the occult.

It’s pointless to argue about what the Vatican will or won’t do.

And it wasn’t EMsHC that surrounded the altar. As the OP noted:
invited at least 20 teenagers to come up on the altar before the Eucharistic prayer began
That was members of the congregation, not extraordinary ministers.

My ultimate question is, knowing that our bishop will not take any direct course of action on this, what are my options in the Church to correct the liturgical bomb that is going on at this parish.
You can write a firm but polite letter to the papal nuncio in Washington DC.

One of his underlings will certainly read the letter, and give the gist of it to the nuncio, who may or may not take action.

Please reread what the OP wrote.
“the priest added one or two words to the prayer of consecration, invited at least 20 teenagers to come up on the altar before the Eucharistic prayer began, still getting vested as he comes in (no procession) and gives a two minute talk about teenage stuff and then says, “ok are you guys ready to begin, in the name of the Father and of…” - he does not sit in the celebrant’s chair but rather in the front pew during the Liturgy of Word. He said the words of consecration with the hosts in a clear glass container. No altar candles were lit.”

First, I would have to ask you to give a definition of “Liturgical Abuse”.
Second, if one only checks the RS, one does not get a big picture. Some of these are in the GIRM or the CIC.

Here is an example pertaining to the changing or adding of words to the prayer of consecration…
CIC/83 846.1 The liturgical books approved by the competent authority are to be faithfully observed in the celebration of the sacraments; therefore, no one on personal authority may add, remove, or change anything in them

When a person gets stuck on one document, you won’t see the big picture.

I have seen people here call some abuses, “Minor abuses”. They are still abuses. No women is “a little pregnant”
