I am trying to teach the kids about the calendar.
I thought that I would hang a calendar in the room with the colors corresponding to the season on it so they can get a visual picture of the year… my problem becomes the “feast days” and the Solemn days thrown in there…
should I color these with Red and White and the correct color…
or should I just keep it very simple and do the seasons???

The children are 8 years old and this is their first year of religion education.

Thanks for your (name removed by moderator)ut.

For younger kids, I’d keep it simple. Something like this. You could mention that there are other days in there that the priest might celebrate, but I wouldn’t go in depth about that yet.

Well that is exactly what we are going to do for our craft that night…

but to start it off and try to tie it all together… I thought that I would start this week with making a calendar with colors…
hanging it on our wall…
and having the kids write their birthdays down on there.

Then next week, we talk about saints and their special days…
that way I can research saints with either the kids name or birthdate…

and then finally the following week,
we can lead up to understanding the liturgical calendar?

Does this sound too complicated for 8 year olds??

No, I think that sounds good. 👍

We actually purchase a poster-sized liturgical calendar called Year of Grace through Liturigical Training Publications.

It’s a great poster, full of info. We also get every child the smaller version and use it in class. They come in packs of 25.
