Liturgy of the Hours

My husband and I have started reading the Christian Prayer:Liturgy of the Hours, Evening Prayer each night since the new year and I am wondering if someone can help us with something. The St.Joseph Guide sometimes has Parenthesis with different pages for the same day. For example: tonight Jan.13/09 shows EP(1430 or 1436) 743. The readings on page 743 and 1430 are each complete and the one on page 1436only gives the hymn and then jumps to the readings.
It was so long ago that we learned how to follow these readings we do not remember how to deal with days such as these. We think it has something to do with feast days(?)

Some of the Saints fall under various categories… for example Teacher, Religious, Martyr, etc. So there are actually options. I hope that helps. I love my new iPhone. I found free apps that provide the same information as the St. Joseph Guide. I even found various religious orders that record and post on the internet. But there is one in particular that recites it daily. I can listen to it or read or both.

I went back and actually finished reading your question. Yes. Some are feast days. The Guide should tell you. There is an index somewhere up front that indicates it. I use the 4 volume set but I do have the one volume in my SUV, actually my boy’s. So I can’t look up exactly what you’re talking about without going out in the cold this time of night all snug in my chair/bed. But if you need more help I’d suggest you go to that sight to learn. I just don’t like the way they “spruce it ups” It’s too dramatic for my taste.

the App is called “Divine Office” the other one I prefer is “iBreviary” They do have websites.

May I recommend a wonderful site for the Liturgy of Hours? You can pray it online using the four volume, or single volume LOTH books, the page numbers are given, if not there is a reference to a site that emails you a weeks LOTH by prayer, by page number listing for both type books. The site has text for the prayers of the day, and audio, with background music. It has grown from 3000 to 7000 members (free sign up) and offers podcast on iTunes,(free of charge), you can download to an iPod or recording device. They do have service for an App for the Divine Office, at a nominal charge, and for iPhones which has phone service charge off course.
