Howdy!

Anyone else full time on the road in an RV? Any Catholic friendly parks or places to stay in the southwest or elsewhere?

Is it common for churches to allow an overnight stay in parking lot if you stay inside as if at Walmart parking lot and leave early next morning? This would be arriving for Vigil or evening Mass.

One more thing… So far I have not missed Mass 2.5 months on the road, but this weekend is going to be a challenge. When traveling in the past I was told by parish priest that I could get a dispensation BUT had to see him for confession as soon as home. Is this doctrine or simply his way of being pastoral?

I have no parish now.

Thanks,

El PAso

I have no real experience or advice to offer, but living on the road in an RV has been one of my daydreams.

Your post reminded me of Holy Trinity Monastery in St. David, AZ. Back when it was an active Benedictine monastery, they had an RV park on the premises, and the part-time residents called themselves the “holy hobos,” participating in the life and liturgy of the monks for as long as they stayed. You can see from the website the current situation there. It sounds like they still have the RV facilities and welcome guests.

Anyway, happy and safe traveling!

Looks like the monastery closed April 2017.

Or under new management? 😲

Maybe volunteers welcome to contribute skills (and park on site). That would be cool!
Areas needed library, landscaping, kitchen and bakery or wherever needed.
@El_PAso if you go, come back here and let us know how it went. 😀

We bought a small pop-up A-frame a couple of years ago. The longest we’ve been on the road is 16 days. We enjoy it and plan on getting a bigger rig and taking much longer trips once we’re retired

We stayed overnight in our RV at Holy Trinity Monastery on New Year’s Eve 2017. The brothers were called away in 2017 it’s still operated by oblates many who live on the grounds as well as some retired nuns. It’s a nice place. Great birding as well. Unfortunately they don’t have daily mass there anymore since they don’t have a permanent priest.
