Does anyone know of a good script for Living Stations of the Cross for elementary school aged children? The kids are in 1-5 grade. We’re looking for something that requires narrators but no lines from the kids doing the acting. In previous years, we’ve had about 3 or 4 narrators reading a few stations each and then the rest of the children sort of miming.

The problem is that the script that we’ve been using just seems too casual, not very liturgical. And the responses that the congregation is supposed to say are also extremely casual - like “Dear Jesus, help me never to make fun of anyone or call people names.” We want something more liturgical/solemn/prayerful. I’m not sure if I’m describing this very well…

Everything I find either is just meant to be read and wouldn’t be easy for small children to act out, requires the “actors” to say lines, or is also just very casual like what we have now.

My 2 cents:
Living Stations are too intense for children.
I don’t know of a script.

Have you seen a Living Stations of the Cross service done by children? There are definitely ways to do it so that it is respectful but also appropriate for children. We teach children that Jesus died on the cross and how much of a sacrifice that was. Is that not an appropriate thing to teach to children? We have been doing it at our parish for decades and have never had issues with children not being able to handle it. It’s just that I am in charge of it now and am seeking a better script. I appreciate your concern but your comment is not helpful.
