I’ve been having a dicussion with my girlfriend recently. We been talking about hobbies and what role they should play in ones life. She feels that everything you do should always bring you closer to God and anything else is a waste of time.

I feel that while not everything necessary overtly leads you closer to God you should write it off. My thoughts have been you should be more worried about what takes you away from God than what brings you closer to God.

My question is what does living the faith in everything you do through out the day look like? Especially with things like hobbies that may seem like “a waste of time”.

depends on the hobbies i guess. i thik you can incorporate faith in God in to pretty muchy everything you do.

i don’t know what hobbies you like, but here are some examples.

music: you can play music that is uplifting and helps people. put on benefit concerts for charities if you like that kind of thing. or play in senior’s homes. or just to entertain your friends. God gave us great creativity andpeople with great talent and we can thank him for it. or compose songs for him.

another example is sports. you are using the body which God gave you and making it healthy because it is the temple of the holy spirit, you can also learn teamwork and discipline as well as good sportsmanship and the proper way to approach competition. and if you ever gt interviewed, you can attribute God in your success.

even if your hobbies are just relazing and having fun, watching tv or playing games. there’s also nothing wrong with. we are allowed to have fun and enjoy the gift of life god has given us by sharing it with our family and friends.

a lot of tings are morally neutral. just depends what you do with them. and as long as your’e not sinning,.

anyways, i’m not really an expert, hopefully that helped a bit. maybe someone can give better advice.

St. Paul in one of his letters mentions that we can do things that are good, pleasing and perfect. Which means a choice of degree of goodness. So hobbies would fall into this.

Often our own intention of loving God in what we do is the difference between just ok and pleasing to God. So many of the saints have said that it is in our love that we please him so much.

The morning offering is a way to ellevate all that we do, for in it we offer all our works, joys, sufferings, to God out of love. It is similar to a little child offering its mother a dandelion to show its mother that it loves her. The more pure the act of love, the more the act is pleasing to our loving saviour. Hobbies fall into this category if done to love God in all our actions.

May God bless and keep you. May God’s face shine on you. May God be kind to you and give you peace.
