Recently several churches seem to have moved the tabernacle from the centre of the church, i.e. on the main altar, to a side chapel out of the way. Bearing in mind the Pope’s recent teaching:

“In the course of the day the faithful should not omit visiting the Blessed Sacrament, which in accordance with liturgical law must be reserved in churches with *great reverence *in a prominent place. Such visits are a sign of gratitude, an expression of love and an acknowledgment of the Lord’s presence.”
Ecclesia de Eucharistia 25

Since Jesus is the new temple among us it seems absurd to place him anywhere but the centre of the church. Can one imagine the uproar if the Temple in Jerusalem had relegated the Holy of Holies to the side. Yet many young priests are actively discouraged and even forbidden to relocate Jesus to His rightful place in the church. cf. Faith Editorial Nov-Dec 2004

Not to worry, my parish is currently looking at renovation plans to move the tabernacle to the center (currently it is on the left side in the sancutary as you face it).

Same as Pug!Wwe are relocating our Tabernacle from right of centre back in nobilissimo loco early Spring.

It is the proper place for it after all.

My pastor moved the tabernacle back behind the altar and my spiritual director has done the same thing in his parish.

God Bless

Do they have the green, leafy houseplant, too? That have to have that. It seems to come standard with the moved tabernacle. I’m figuring it’s a throw in from whoever sells them on the idea.

Ever been to St. Peter’s, Rome? In an ordinary parish Church the Tabernacle should be in the centre, that is the focal point. What usually replaces the Tabernacle? The priest. He usually plonks his ‘presider’s chair’ there. Priest worship, this is the New Church.

Our previous pastor had moved it from the center to the side; but, praise the Lord, our present pastor moved it back again to the center.
