**Looking Down From the Cross
**
Jesus, grievously wounded and hanging on the cross, does see
A group gathered, yelling and cursing at Him with harsh cruelty,
His mother and friends mourning and suffering deeply interiorly,
And all of humanity, wounded, sinful, and in need of great mercy.
As Jesus is God, His vision extends throughout both future and past;
He sees our sin-covered hearts seeking forgiveness that will ever last,
And our desire to be united with Him forever and ever in Heaven above;
He knows our urgent need and desire to be one with Him in perfect love.
Jesus sees with pleasure that many will accept and return his love deeply;
Others will be lukewarm, wavering back and forth conflicted interiorly;
Others will choose their own path of life, bringing others suffering and strife,
Tearing apart Jesus’ heart like the twisting of an old rusty serrated knife.
Jesus sees the sorry state of all people and their use, good and bad, of free will,
For a moment, His loving wounded heart stops and the whole world stands still;
He feels the love of many and His love for all, including that of His Father above;
He surrenders every bit of His human will, and acts with His perfect divine love.
Jesus unites His flawless divine heart with all of our sins and sufferings,
Looks up to His Father in Heaven, and makes one tremendous self-offering,
The perfect sacrifice, infinite in love, given freely, for each and everyone,
So that all may come to be forever with the Father, Holy Spirit, and Son.
[PAUSE AND REFLECT]
All glory and praise to Jesus Christ, our Lord, our Redeemer, our Savior,
Who died painfully for us so that we can be with Him forever and ever.
All glory and praise to Jesus Christ, our Lord, our King, and our Master.
May we all truly embrace and return His deep love, both now and forever.
