Hello!

I am looking for a Monastic Diurnal with the traditional Vulgate, Douay Rheims and Benedictine Office but cannot find one anywhere. Does anyone know where I can find one?

Thank you!

Tim

Have you ever seen this book published? I don’t know if the benedictine breviary, and English D/R and Latin Vulgate translations of the bible ever appeared under one cover.

You can definitely get individual books , but getting it “all in one” is a tall order.

Thank you but unfortunately this one does not have DR English.

The Breviary is meant for prayer, and is to be prayed in Latin if by the pre-conciliar rite. The English is only to inform the user. That includes the readings. What is your intended purpose?

For a complete breviary (that is including Vigils), the only published versions I know of are entirely in Latin. The diurnal, as its name implies, is for the daytime hours only. I have a copy, given to me by a monk. It’s in two volumes.

Thanks OraLabora. Thanks for the reply. The intended use is prayer. I was a little confused by your second paragraph. Have you ever heard of a diurnal in Latin and Douay Rheims?

The full Breviary includes the office of Vigils (or Matins) White the diurnal excludes it.

I have no idea which translation is used for the English readings. I do ha ve a diurnal, but Latin/French, but I don’t use it. I don’t think it matters that much which Bible translation is used as the reading is prayed in Latin, and the English translation is meant to help understand the Latin, and not for exegesis. In this case the reading is meant as prayer and reflection.
