the NRSV is the closest to the original text that scripture scholars come to in english. for those who are concerned about gender-inclusive text, there is some of this, i.e. “brothers and sisters” but does not “corrupt” the actual translation when it calls for the use of “brother” or “man” in reference to any one individual. the new oxford study bible is also very well done–extensive footnotes and commentary but can run a little steep. stay away from translations like New Living or KJV because the text used is corrupt and biased. the New Jerusalem flows well and is more poetic. It tends to stay on track as far as translation goes.
