Looking for a particular religious order

Does anyone know what religious order wears a blue over white habit? I’m thinking it’s like a solid blue outer garment over white, no stripes or anything.

May sound like a dumb question but it’s driving me crazy!

If you happen to know what order they are, what is their spirituality–(benedictine, carmelite…etc.) and do you have any links?

It happens that I do know of such an order. I
think a member of the order was on Mother
Angelica’s Live show several years ago.

It was called something like: Lambs of Christ.
The reason I recall it, was that the habit was
striking. I think it was a white garment, with
a blue covering that went down both back and
front.

Well, I spent some time trying to track down

the name of the probably “congregation”, not
order, with no success.
The only thing I can think of is to ask the personnel
at EWTN if they can check their archives of the
Mother Angelica live show.

It could possibly be the Sisters of Life, based out of New York. They wear a beautiful blue and white habit. They’re such an awesome order. www.sistersoflife.com - there is a picture of some of the sisters on the “about us” link. Hope that helps!

The one time I saw this habit, it was being worn
by a priest. Are there priests and brothers in the
congregation you are speaking of.
Seems to me that there was a great deal of
Eucharist Adoration that takes place in the
congregation I’m thinking of.

I did check out the Sisters of Life and while that wasn’t the habit I was thinking of, it IS beautiful! In reading about them something clicked in my head…and I realized that they are the order a friend and neighbor of mine recently looked into and wants to join. They told her to take a year to grow/discern and someone there is going to keep in touch with her.

Anyway, you ask why I’m asking and since I don’t really know you all and you are not likely to really meet me I’ll give you my very strange answer.

When I’ve asked people I know if they can think of the order with the blue over white habit, I just say it’s like a trivia question that for some reason is driving me nuts because I saw it somewhere. Not really a lie, but not the entire truth.

Here’s the deal: (I haven’t said anything to my Spiritual Director about this, by the way…I just started Spiritual Direction and he probably already thinks I"m nuts. I don’t want him to have the reaction to me that Father Corapi’s confessor had when he bowled the poor guy over with his revelation).

I had a dream about dresses…first one, which wasn’t right, then a bridal -type gown…which got stained, but I was provided with a new dress which was just right. Not so fancy as the first, not the same connotation as the 2nd…but somehow just right and I knew I was wearing what I was supposed to wear.

Now also please understand I hve been begging Jesus to tell me what I"m supposed to do because I"m suddenly at a point in my life where my career goals are gone…I don’t knowwhat to do. I don’t have a path and I don’t want to do anything I’ve done before because I’ve learned where I don’t belong. I’m not satisfied in my work…in fact, it seems often meaningless.

I guess God has me where he wants me.

So I have been considering a vocation. Well, with that dream and the problem with the bridal gown-type dress, I do have to consider the obvious meaning. Could this possibly be a clue as to where to look for direction? So I’m looking to the orders with blue and white habits. There are so many orders…I guess it’s one way to narrow down the selection!

The one I had in mind I think actually would wear a blue veil…but I didn’t dream of a veil at all so it doesn’t really matter. The habit itself looks more like a white sheath, long sleeved, and then a type of long vest over it…floor length, so the white is visible donw the middle. It kind of reminds me of a “princess” dress.

I know I’ve seen a similar habit, but I don’t know where and I never know what order nuns are from.

So here I sit with this ridiculous question and even more ridiculous answer to you. I know, dreams are dreams, but I know that sometimes God speaks to us through dreams (not all, just some) and this is part of why I’m recieving spiritual direction. Long story, not going to get into that.

So there it is. I’m completely confused as to what to do, but at least now I feel like I have something to look at.

OH, and the Sisters of LIfe seem like a very cool order. I think I might be more called ot missionary work in Spanish speaking countries, though. (Did some work in Mexico in college–fell in love).

I do not think it’s strange. Perhaps God is using this to show you what order you are supposed to join. Maybe one day you will just happen to see one of these sisters in the habit you describe. Sounds fascinating actually.

I’m a little confused about the connection, though. You dreamed of a wedding dress but it turned into a religious habit??? Or, what? Can you please give a clear description of the habit (fully), and I can let you know if I’ve seen anything like it? Your last post was a bit confusing regarding the description. Thanks.

By the way, I do not think you are crazy.

As with all dreams, it was somewhat vague.

There were 3 seperate dresses…the first was pretty and the one I chose, but something happened to it and I couldn’t wear it.

So I had to choose another, and the one that looked like a bridal gown had the best fit and worked for me, so I chose it with some assistance. In the dream I attended a party in the dress but had to suddenly leave. En route to wherever I was called to, it was stained and I fell, making it worse.

I had to change. So someone went with me to my closet and picked out this dress:

It had a white sheath (or frock) and a dark blue overlay–it was like a royal or majestic blue, as opposed to sky-blue. The white garmet portion was long sleeved and the skirt full -length. The overlay was the blue, had about 3/4 length sleeves (so the white showed on the bottom) and the skirt of the overlay went to the floor. It might have showed a white hem.

The overlay fitted like a jacket somewhat in that it came over the white portion of the garment and had a kind of clasp that brought it together in front. I wish I could draw it for you but I dont’ have a scanner.

I KNOW I’ve seen a similar habit and with the thought process I’ve had lately I do have to consider that this dress may actually represent a habit.

I’m really almost afraid to show this dream to my SD because if he sees in it what I do I’m actually afraid he’ll ask me if I’m considering a vocation. But I’ll HAVE to show it to him because to do otherwise would affect the integrety of the entire thing.

Of course, he may not, but still. This could be a big deal so I want to spend some time just turning this idea over in my head before I actually go to someone with it for real.

You really have me interested! Is there a veil at all? I can’t imagine an order with a habit that you describe for women, without a veil. Unless it’s the male habit? It would really help a lot to know the color of the veil, and perhaps the length.

I looked through the pages of all the CMSWR communities of women, and I did not see any habits as you described. However, many of the communities did not have photos, so I could have missed the one of which you’re thinking.

Have you done international travelling, so that perhaps this habit belongs to a community outside the US?

Thanks so much for the help. No, none of those were quite right but they do have som really interesting designs, don’t they?

In the dream there were no veils at all–not with the wedding-type dress and not with the dress I did finally wear–at least, not that I remember.

I don’t know for sure if I’ve actually seen this habit…what I described was the dress from my dream. I know I saw something similar in a habit, but it may have been only a photo.

The only international travel I have had the fortune to do was to Mexico in 1994, where I spent a semester in Puebla. I saw only a couple nuns there and they had black and white habits–the kind most commonly seen (ie St. Faustina, etc).

Of course, a dream can just be a dream and mean nothing.

I doubt these are the nuns you are looking for. They are part of CMRI which is sedevacantist, but they have striking blue and white habits like you had asked for.
 
OK, THAT’s the color.

But not quite the style. (And of course, I"m not sedevacantist). How do you know they are sedevacantists? Does it say so on the site? I just looked at the photo on the page you provided.

Especially considering this could really be a wild goose chase and I really am not sure that I am being called. :o
 
I’ve done my homework on them since I am discerning a vocation as well, most preferably in an order that offers the TLM. They are an offshoot of the SSPV, which is also sedevacantist. I have found in my search that one needs to be very careful of who ministers to these traditional orders because they are very often not legitimately approved by the local bishop.

Also, their superior general can trace his succession to Archbishop Thuc who is more than a bit loony and there is some doubt as to the validity of any ordinations he’s performed.
