Others have posted great advice. Here is my small offering…ask God to help you have a humble heart.
I could have written your post 13 years ago. I had worked in the same department for 10 years…and only about 3 of those years were ‘happy’ due to conflicts with co-workers and the feeling that they didn’t like me. I actually went through some counseling to deal with this and came to the realization that I was so blinded by my own insecurity that I couldn’t see their insecurity. Once I recognized that I was perceived as a threat by the office manager, in particular, I was able to overcome that sadness I felt that was a result of feeling like my co-workers didn’t like me. It actually helped quite a bit to begin praying for my co-workers and their needs. I also learned not to take things so personally and to understand that it’s not always about ME. See, my pride often gets in the way…I think that is common for overachievers. When I began turning the focus from myself to my co-workers, things improved tremendously. When I began praying for humility and a servant’s heart, ALL of my relationships improved. When you pray this way though, you need to be ready for the correction God may send your way. As someone who is hard-working and ambitious, it’s easy for me to get caught in this “I’m always right” trap. God has humbled me a few times…I was insisting that I was right and then was proven wrong. I thank God for giving me those moments because they have helped me learn to be a team player and to turn more toward HIM for guidance, rather than relying on myself.
