So I live with 6 other kids in a suite. I’m over 21 and so is one other kid. Interestingly, the two of us plus 1 other kid are the only ones who abstain from alcohol. So usually, if the other 4 kids are drinking and being stupid, I’ve got a couple friends here that I can kind of “hide” with and block out all the junk around us.

This past weekend, it was just a crazy coincidence (or maybe God’s plan) that those two other kids went home to visit their families. That means I was left here alone. Naturally, the other 4 kids hosted an extravagant party complete with drinking games and probably other disturbing acts that I was unaware of here last night. It really really made me angry. I should mention that ALL of them are under 21. Anyways, I was also lucky enough to have one more friend in another building, who was gracious enough to allow me to crash there for a night.

My question is this:

Should I report my roomates? Not only is it illegal, but it is against University policy. I really want to report them. I’m not affraid of any of them, I’m much bigger than they are and I don’t think they’d mess with me. They’d probably not like me, but I don’t really care. I’m more concerned with justice.

Let me ask you this, am I morally obligated to report them? Or is it just kind of an anything goes situation?

Thanks guys.

I don’t know if you are morally obligated to report them, but I sure wouldn’t want to live with that. At my school, you can get a pretty big fine if you know that’s going on and don’t report it, even if you’re not involved.

If I was in that situation, I would talk to the RD and find a way to stop it without your roommates knowing you did it, because if they find out, it could probably cause some problems for you.

College is a really difficult time. People are faced with all kinds of stuff going on and have to make a lot of decisions about their life and what path they will take.

I can’t necessarily speak to the “whether to report them or not”, but what about adjusting your living situation next year (or semester)? It sounds like you do have friends who share the same values with you. What about rooming with them next year? I know that moving rooms is hard work at college and getting approval for that is sometimes difficult. But it might be worth it.

Good luck and say lots of prayers!! 🙂
