Can someone recommend a good book for someone wanting an introduction to Thomistic philosophy? I don’t fancy jumping straight into the Summa…
Thanks!
Thanks!
I have heard this recommended as well as learning a little Latin and reading Aquinas in Latin.I’m not sure about an Introduction to Aquinas specifically, but I would recommend, nevertheless, a general understanding of Aristotle first (and Plato, since the two go hand-in-hand), since much of Thomistic Philosophy is based on these ancient minds.

Peter Kreeft has an excellent “explained” and truncated version, called “Summa of the Summa”. It’s got all the big STA questions and topics (“Does God exist?”) etc., and lots of annotations. Great stuff.Try this link for some searches:

Having attended a Jesuit university, I did get a little intro to the ancient Greeks, though I definitely need a refresher!I’m not sure about an Introduction to Aquinas specifically, but I would recommend, nevertheless, a general understanding of Aristotle first (and Plato, since the two go hand-in-hand), since much of Thomistic Philosophy is based on these ancient minds.
