If I can I would like to ask those who converted to the Catholic Church this question.

What happened in your life to get you there? To become Catholic? Was it a calling? What changed?

If you can open your heart in this manner I would appreciate it. I would like to place some of your testimonials on my site at www.catholic-rcia.com. I was Mormon and I converted to Christ and now I live within His Church. Your testimonials will help here in Utah. Every Mormon has to have a testimony that their Church is true. I am not looking for a testimony that proves that the Catholic Church is true, but rather how your heart was pierced for the Christ the Chrisy we as Christians have come to know. When a Christian gives a Mormon a testimony straight from the heart it really makes them think. “How can this be?”

In one of our RCIA classes a young girl began to cry. We asked her what was wrong? She said that she had never heard others speak of God and Christ as we had been speaking. She began to understand the immensity of a God, and the meaning that he has in our lives.

Peace in Christ

Rich

“Not a God”
Rather “God”
Yes I used to be Mormon “Sorry”

Old habits die hard eh?

Just kidding.

I am not an ex Mormon but I was thinking that if you were a Cathoilic in Utah you would have to KNOW your faith!
Since your such a tiny minority and Mormons are pretty agressive in the evangelization efforts.
But their would be pros if you knew the faith Utah is a great place to raise a family and would be bereft of many a temptation that would be found in a place like San Francisco.
And you wouldn’t be different than anone else if you chose to have more than 2 kids!

Rich - Can I ask what caused you to leave the LDS church to become Catholic?

My story: I had been raised in the church, but left for several years. I got into all kinds of horrible habits until my mom forced me into going back to church. I heard a song played at church, and knew the words to the song before it was ever sung. It was like God was speaking directly to my heart! I was totally filled with the Holy Spirit and knew that God was calling to me to return home! It absolutely AMAZED me that God would even care, would even pay attention to me after all of the terrible things I had done. I knew that I had found a home! The reality of a God that could know all about me and care completely about me and STILL care never ceases to amaze me. I am in wonder and awe at His greatness. What truly amazes me is that God didn’t just speak to my heart once or twice, but repeatedly, every Sunday in mass, and several other times throughout the week.

Hope that helps a little. I would be happy to tell you more.

I lost my mother at eight years old and went to live with my Grandmother and Grandfather. My Grandmother was Mormon and we attended the Mormon Church with her every Sunday. I heard the stoies and because I was just a kid I beleived in them. I was never baptised Mormon and the reason why is pretty big in my life. You can read about it in the link below. You see my Grandpa who smoked and drank once told me that he was not good enough to attend. You have to understand that at eight there was no one but him that showed me who Christ was because he was the only one in my life that could put his arm around me and tell me I was special.

We used to walk up and down a drivway staring up at the stars together while eating peanuts that came from his green sweater. When he told me that he was not good enough to go, I stopped going myself. I protested at eight! Years later, a familiy later I found the only place on this earth that he would not have to have been good enough to attend. When I found this place I joined up.It is a place where I have found my grandpa once again alive and well in Christ. It is the reason I get up in the morning.

My Catholic wife took me to Mass many times before the light went off. We Just moved to Utah and it was at the first Mass in Logan that I had a desire to be in the eucharistic line. I have been on fire to spread the Gospel here ever since my Baptism. This is the best place for a Catholic to be in America I believe. I could go on…

Who better to understand the fallen than the fallen yourself.

If you avoid temptations for the sake of advancing to a higher realm for self and family, what is that? That’s like only loving those that love you. Those tempted and tried, who are they? Who are they to one who has not yeilded to such temptations? I have found a pecking order in this life. Those who are pure and those who are not. I have also heard Christ say that the last will be first, and the first will be last. Who was it that stayed home as Christ walked down the road to die for us? Was it not the pure? Why would they want to walk with Him? Who was it that fell to His feet if not the tempted who acted on the temptations? At least they found that they needed Him. Life in Utah is not as pleasant as it seems. There are things unseen that can destroy a soul more than a young child in a Ghetto with the seen temptations all around. Thinking of God as part of what he has made rather than it’s origin can lead a soul away from Him just as fast as a life in a big City.

Well congratulations! And God Bless!

It is very uplifting for me to hear stories of Catholics who have converted from the LDS faith. My best friends are LDS members, and I believe that I have been called to help bring them into the Catholic Church, but I struggle so mightily with how to approach them. How to get them to see the truth. It can be very disheartening at times, but knowing that it can be done certainly helps.

Short version,

I reverted to Catholicism after 27 years when I was in my Baptist church in Tooele, UT. The Doctor of theology in Bible study was lecturing on James chapter 2 (something no Baptist should do, EVER!) Then, right after Bible study during services the Preacher, another Doctor of theology, contridicted what the other Doctor just said and both contridicted Scripture! Many months later, many tears later, many aurguments with my wife later, many rude comments by my relatives later, much much much research later, being shunned by my Baptist ‘friends’ later, I followed Christ home to His body, the Catholic Church. I crossed the Tiber broken and battered with tears in my eye, but now I only smile for I have had the ‘scales’ lifted off my eyes and I can ‘see’ and ‘hear’ for the first time what the Gospel of Jesus is, not what some false prophets claim it is.

Would I do it all over again knowing the pain and suffering I went through in my life to become Catholic by “desire?” YES!

Joe Smith, a great LDS prophet;) , said to follow the truth wherever the truth leads you. I followed his advice! The truth is in Christ and in His Catholic Church, his body, of which He is the head. I will never deny Christ again.

  1. Code:
Speaking of false Prophets. When I was young I was told the Mormon story about two brothers. One Jesus and the other Lucifer. Lucifer wanted to go down to earth and redeem all of us through force for His Father. But the their father, in a line of fathers chose Jesus the other son, one of many sons. Lucifer became angry and jealous and rebelled. In the garden mankind chose them selves over God, Grace apart from God. It was Lucifer that offered us this. Here is a quote from Joseph Smith that I would like to take a hard look at with you. I have seen this come out it two others here in Utah. Only when Christ is brought forth in all humility. When you speak about Christ to a Mormon with all the heart you can muster you find deep in them an underlying tone of Jealousy. It will come out, it does come out. It is a bit scary, but must be more so for them.
“Come on! ye prosecutors! ye false swearers! All hell, boil over! Ye burning mountains, roll down your lava! for I will come out on top at last. I have more to boast of than ever any man had. I am the only man that has ever been able to keep a whole church together since the days of Adam. A large majority of the whole have stood by me. Neither Paul, John, Peter, nor Jesus ever did it. I boast that no man ever did such a work as I. The followers of Jesus ran away from Him; but the Latter-day Saints never ran away from me yet…When they can get rid of me, the devil will also go.” (History of the Church, Vol. 6, p. 408, 409) - Joseph Smith: founder, prophet, seer, and revelator of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

OH MY GOODNESS!!! the first time I read that, I just about had a heart attack. I read it in a book about Mormon Missionaries written by Isaiah Bennett, who was a Catholic priest, converted to Mormonism, then came back to the faith. Who is this guy to claim that he has done a better job establishing a church that JESUS??? If that’s not vanity and heretical, then I don’t know what is! Funny thing too, most of the original “witnesses” eventually left or were excommunicated from the Mormon church. So I guess even his claim isn’t true!

God bless you Rich123456 !! Wow, living in Utah and going from Mormonism to God’s holy Catholic church !! What a strong soul you must be !! My heart goes out to you. I couldn’t imagine what life must be like for a Catholic in Utah. Yes, God has definitely called you to proclaim His truth. I’ll be praying for you daily. God bless you again!

It’s a good fight. They only really have thier personal revelation to hang onto in the end! But that is a toughy!

I can’t think of a better place to be right now in my life. Cache Valley Utah is a very special place. We are building a new Catholic Church here in the Spring. It will be centered right in the middle of the valley with the foot of the Rockies all around. The Church will be built in the shape of a cross. This would be seen if you were standing on any one of the mountains that surround this valley. You can see a drawing of this Church here:
catholic-rcia.com/pages/Saint_Thomas.html

The faithful have raised around two million over the last seven years or so and the Bishop has just approved enough to build the Chapel and offices. It will not be complete until we have gathered enough to built the School, the classrooms. If you would like to help just call Father Clearance. The numbers can be found at the link above. Anything would help even if only Five dollars. If you can spread the word please do. Utah is a land of lost souls. People trying to do so much good. If they could only come to know the God that Christians have come to know, look out! A very good find for Christ. They would come to know where this good comes from.

"Lord, you are not pleased with someone simply because that person is knowledgeable. In fact, it would be possible for one to know everything there is to know in the whole wide world, except for knowing you, and consequently know nothing. Just as another person could live in blissful ignorance of the great sum of human knowledge, but know you, and be both happy and content. After all, who is better placed - the person who owns a tree and gives You thanks for all the good things it provides; or the one who owns a similar tree and knows its weight and dimensions down to the least leaf, but does not realize that You are its Creator and that it is through You that he or she has use of it? In essence, the latter person is ignorant, though full of facts, and the former person wise, though bit short on details.
