Hi! I’m currently in my first year of a masters in a top ranked program for religious ethics/moral theology. I’m wondering if anyone knows if the PhD at Ave Maria is funded? The candidates from the website seem really cool and I like the location of Ave, but there is no mention of a stipend or anything on the website. I imagine the candidates are not paying for their degree but the website seems to indicate they may be… any information would be great!

The question you should ask is whether they employee Ph.D. students as teaching assistants or research assistants. The application process, or application information online, should indicate whether you want to apply to be such an assistant, or whether there is some other means of funding you can apply for. If no such thing is on the application, there probably is no source of funding for Ph.D. students. Look as well for scholarships or fellowships. If you can’t find these things online, you should call the contact number to ask these questions with the person in charge of applications.
I don’t know your intentions, but you should carefully think through the fact that positions for Ph.D.'s in Catholic theology are abysmal right now with the potential to get much worse. At some early point, please have an honest discussion about job possibilities with as many people as you can before you commit to a very lengthy and expensive program.
