As many of you know I made a thread on making my Lord’s Day more Holy.

I have been searching and feel I am finally getting this right to what I want.

However, I am wondering what sort of bread recipe I should do since I would like to break bread on Saturday Night (using the wonderful ceremony I found)

I was thinking of Challah bread, but I just feel that is more Jewish and would like to start my own tradition.

Does this recipe look and feel “Catholic” to you all? I don’t want unleaved bread because of course I will be going to Mass to receive Jesus

Hi Patty,

Your bread recipe reminds me of the bread we used to get for Communion when I was growing up in the Russian Orthodox church. I come from a family where my mom’s side is R.O. and dad’s side is Catholic. I was a lucky kid, celebrating two Christmases and sometimes Easters. 🙂 I’ve since become Catholic for several reasons and I’m very happy.

Anyway, our R.O. priest’s wife, we called her Matushka, baked this bread. They used to leave a loaf cut up in small cubes on a tray in the aisle (presumable unconsecrated, but I’m not sure) so folks can take a few pieces on their way out if they wanted. If I remember correctly, and it’s been 34 years since I received Eucharist in the R.O. church, the bread was placed in the chalice of wine, and the priest dispensed it to each parishioner with a little gold spoon. Any Orthodox folks out there, please correct me if I’m wrong.

Here’s a Google search result with plenty of links and images you can browse:

I don’t remember it having the stamped seal.

It’s a great idea and I’d love to hear how it goes!
