Micas and Teflon93 should open a different thread and take their discussion there. This thread is to answer brierpatch1974’s questions and inquiries, not to start a debate.

So, one of you please start a new thread and post a link to it before this thread goes completely off topic. I think the least both of you can do for our new poster is to allow his questions to get responses without going into other issues.
Thank you for the reminder—I’d already attempted to reel us back in above.

As you’ll note above, I have responded to each of brierpatch1974’s questions insofar as I am able, and perhaps have provided some small assistance to him in that regard.

I’ll step aside for the moment so my brothers and sisters may continue to respond without distraction.

Thank you. I hadn’t seen your post while I was composing mine. Obviously I take a long time to compose–too much of a perfectionist, I fear!

No worries—I have the opposite problem, which is why I do go OT from time to time. 😉

You apparently don’t read Scripture.

John 6 begins with the miracle of the loaves and fishes, where the Lord demonstrates how he can feed the multitudes miraculously with minimal starting materials.

Jesus then reminds us of how God had fed the Jews wandering in the desert manna from high, and proclaims that he is the true bread of life.

When his listeners object, the Lord tells them that even those who ate of the manna eventually died, but those who eat of the bread of life will live forever.

Far from the Bible Bingo cherry picking you’ve engaged in, Christ emphasizes that his body is the true bread of life and his blood the true drink of life. He repeats this claim seven times, and emphasizes it with “indeed” when his listeners object.

This is why the ECFs understood the Eucharist as they did, and why Catholics and Orthodox and some high Protestants recognize it today.

It is you who dare idolatry by elevating the tradition handed you by a long-dead “Reformer” over the Word of God.

Put down your study Bible and READ.
and you have bought into the world view of Roman Catholicism of scripture cherry picking! Jesus is in fact giving you a contrast of physical and spiritual. physical food which leads to death and spiritual food that leads to everlasting life. you cannot see the kingdom because you are not born again there for you cannot understand spiritual things. Jesus is speaking parables to these people because they are unbelieving and were there just for the signs and wonders, so Jesus contrasting the physical to make spiritual realities would and did weed out those who were unbelieving. even his disciples were confused. One difference even though they didnt understand the teaching. They had come to believe that Jesus was the Son of god the Messiah and He had the words to eternal life. and what ever Jesus said Being God He must know. so they chose to believe God, you need to read John 16: 25 Jesus explains figurative speech. You have a mind set you chose to belief and follow because you have been taught to believe in transubstantiation. I ask you if we receive Christ through the indwelling of the HS when we are born again. See John 1:12. Why would i need to eat my God! think about it eating your God, Well like Peter said If you indeed have tasted that the Lord is gracious 1 Peter 2:3 you would realise that God chooses to use food as medifores to Him. I would chew on that ( or meditate ) and as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word that you may grow by, there fore taste and see that the lord is good and springs of living water will spring out of you to everlasting life.

Hi:wave: I just finished reading a beautiful poem that appealed to my senses. I think it’s appropriate for this topic.

**Desiderata **

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.

If you compare yourself to others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the the world is full of trickery. But let not this blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore, be at peace with God, whatever you conceive him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all it’s sham drudgery and broken dreams; it is still a beautiful world.

Be cheerful. Strive to be happy. 🙂

QUOTE
  1. The Catholic Church views our relationship with God in the New Covenant in a highly sacramental sense. Moreover, we view the sacraments as unchanging and unchangeable, instituted as they were by God through Christ’s ministry. Thus, when someone asks, “Why can’t women be priests?” or “Why can’t homosexual couples be married in a Catholic Church?” or similar questions the Catholic answer must always be the same: “Because Christ instituted the sacrament and we can’t change it.” We presume that Christ could have made any of his female followers an apostle. We presume that Christ could have used the wedding at Cana to modify the sacrament of matrimony as he saw fit. But he did not, and therefore Christians cannot. The sacraments are a gift from God for our benefit; we are not free to do with them as we would please.
This is how I feel in my heart. If God wanted these things to be done differantly then Christ would have taught us how to do them when he was teaching us. I don’t think Jesus made a mistake, and if he wanted things to be done another way then he himself would have did them a differant way.

This goes back to my feelings of some churches try to change things Christ did and said so it will fit them and what they want to do and not what they should do.

There are many things that are complicated in the teachings but some things are very simple and made comlicated because those people want to find a way to wiggle out of them. Thats what I believe at least, doesn’t mean its right but sure seems it to me.

Thanks for all the help everyone I really do appreciate it and I am sorry if I have started a debate unintentionally.
