I have not written a Post in a long time. Pain and despair have become my companions each day. My Wife continues to live a seperate life and I continue to Pray and try to be a good Husband. But nothing that I do pleases her and things get no better and in some ways worse. It seems that the Lord does not see fit to Bless my Marriage and I have no control over that. I still Pray every day and continue to believe in the Lord’s Plan for me. It just seems that my fate is to finish out my days alone. I know that I have made mistakes in my Marriage. But, I also know that I ask for the Lord’s help with a clear conscience. My Wife is a good Woman and I have nothing negative to say about her. I Loved her for many years before we were Married and know that I will Love her for the rest of my Life.I just do not understand. As everyone else I have been a Sinner. But, I cannot remember doing anything horrible that would bar me from receiving God’s Blessings. Marriage is a Sacred thing with me and even though it seems that the Lord has no plan to save my Marriage I will continue to care for my Wife and conduct myself in a way that is pleasing to the Lord.I am just Praying for help to get through this. I feel that I have lost my desire for life. All I am doing is surviving. I just do not understand.I know that their are people who need the Lord’s help much more than I do. So I am trying very hard not to be bitter.

Dear Friend,

May I tell you that our Lord loves your heart - he really does and he takes such delight in your being faithful to him in these matters, which are so very painful for you at this time.

I have included in this post, Psalm 88, which may assist you in your prayers, but may it also assure you that what you are experiencing is not unknown in the Christian life. Even very many saints and holy persons have been through long dark periods, when it seemed that God’s love could not, or would not reach them. However, what they teach us, is that if a soul endures through these times in faith, then the Lord can do amazing things in them and with them.

I am truly sorry that your marriage does not seem to be a success, and that it seems that God is withholding his blessing. However, thanks be to God for your faithfulness to your wife, even so. Love is easy, when the other person obviously loves us back. However, to love someone, when the love isn’t obviously being returned is a real cross; and it would seem that this is the cross our Lord is offering you at this time. “Greater love hath no man than to lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15.13). It is a love of this kind, that is being called for here.

Nevertheless, Jesus had to accept help to carry his cross from Simon of Cyrene, and I want to encourage you to seek the help and support that you need, particularly, from your pastor and your parish. It may be that you need to seek a spiritual director to help you through a time of trial. The Church is the hands and feet of Christ on this earth, and maybe God will bless your situation, but through the hands of his servants.

You will be very much in my prayers at this time, and I encourage you to give your situation into the hands of Mary, comforter of the afflicted and refuge of sinners.

Hail Mary
Full of Grace
The Lord is with Thee.
Blessed art though among women
and blessed is the fruit of Thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God
Pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death. Amen.

In Christ,
Peter

*Psalm 88

O LORD, my God, I call for help by day; I cry out in the night before thee. Let my prayer come before thee, incline thy ear to my cry! For my soul is full of troubles, and my life draws near to Sheol.

I am reckoned among those who go down to the Pit; I am a man who has no strength, like one forsaken among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, like those whom thou dost remember no more, for they are cut off from thy hand.

Thou hast put me in the depths of the Pit, in the regions dark and deep. Thy wrath lies heavy upon me, and thou dost overwhelm me with all thy waves. Thou hast caused my companions to shun me; thou hast made me a thing of horror to them. I am shut in so that I cannot escape; my eye grows dim through sorrow. Every day I call upon thee, O LORD; I spread out my hands to thee.

Dost thou work wonders for the dead? Do the shades rise up to praise thee? Is thy steadfast love declared in the grave, or thy faithfulness in Abaddon? Are thy wonders known in the darkness, or thy saving help in the land of forgetfulness?

But I, O LORD, cry to thee; in the morning my prayer comes before thee. O LORD, why dost thou cast me off? Why dost thou hide thy face from me? Afflicted and close to death from my youth up, I suffer thy terrors; I am helpless. Thy wrath has swept over me; thy dread assaults destroy me. They surround me like a flood all day long; they close in upon me together. Thou hast caused lover and friend to shun me; my companions are in darkness. *

Go to your parish and ask if they have a source for Christian counseling. I suggest you try a few sessions to find a biblical source to release the depression you are within.

GOD teaches through joy and HE teaches through pain and suffering.

Pray:

I wish what GOD wishes for in my life; and I do not wish what GOD does not wish for in my life.

Married, divorce or single, we all exist within GOD’s providence. We may not know now, or until we stand before Jesus, why we are in pain, but we can always embrace the suffering, as HE did for us and continue to “Love one another as I have loved you”.

From your post it sounds as if you have come to an understanding of your past life, which was not moving toward GOD, and which has now resulted in the loss of someone very precious to you - as you are precious to GOD. GOD has awakened your conscience. Although there may be a very large part of your life that is, for the moment empty, walk toward GOD, in trust, and love. Be not hateful of your wife, but support her as she needs to adjust.
Return to the rosary, and ask the Blessed Mother to assist you in making choices for your life.

Thank You for your thoughts. I have just, as alll Sinners do, returned to God in my time of need. I wasted a large part of my life on partying and relationships that the lord would not approve of. Now I am turning to him for help and I am ashamed. The only thing that I can say in my defense is that I turn to God with a clear conscience as far as my Marriage is concerned. So I have promised him that when the day comes that my Wife demands a Seperation or Divorce I will conduct myself in a manner that he will approve of. I will do all that I can to help my Wife and help her make the transition that she wants.

Do you think that it is God’s Plan that I spend my remaining years alone? I ask this question because this is the only relationship that I have ever had that gave me a sense of Peace. At an older age I have to say that My Wife is the ONLY True Love of my Life. I also know that even when I was in sinful relationships a large part of my Soul WANTED a Wife like I have.

All we can say with certainty, is that it is God’s will for you to live within the bounds of the moral teaching of Holy Church. You would be wise to be open to the fact the God may not call you to remarriage [bearing in mind that the Church does not permit remarriage, where there is a pre - existing marriage], and that if in his infinite wisdom he does call you to this, then be assured that he will give you the graces necessary to live this calling.

Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us.

You will remain very much in my prayers.
