How exactly is the Concluding Prayer for Commemorations prayed? In the Divine Office for Dodo’s book I have the author says to pray the first part of the Concluding prayer and then add the antiphon from the Canticle of Zechariah or Canticle of Mary and finally pray the Concluding prayer for the Saint.

YET… in the appendix where she breaks down how the offices are to be prayed she takes the Antiphon from the Proper of Saints for the Morning/Evening Prayer that is not marked “Canticle of Zechariah” or “Canticle of Mary”, it is just an antiphon for MP/EP.

So, my question is… Does one take the antiphon for the Commemorations only from the Canticle of Zechariah/Canticle of Mary or is it permitted to use whatever antiphon is given for the Proper of the Seasons or Saints? I think that the author either made a mistake or omitted explaining further this rule.

Thanks and God bless 🙂

The General Instruction says this:
  1. During privileged seasons, if it is desired to celebrate the office of a saint on a day assigned to his or her memorial:
    a. in the office of readings, after the patristic reading (with its responsory) from the Proper of Seasons, a proper reading about the saint (with its responsory) may follow, with the concluding prayer of the saint;
    b. at morning prayer and evening prayer, the ending of the concluding prayer may be omitted and the saint’s antiphon (from the proper or common) and prayer may be added.

You will notice from drforjc’s reply that the instructions use the word “MAY” is used three times. You are allowed much latitude.
