If you are using the psalm prayers, do they go before or after the Glory Be?

I personally don’t use them, but I do know that they go after the antiphon is repeated (and thus after the Glory to the Father).

GILOTH, no. 112. Psalm-prayers for each psalm are given in the supplement to The Liturgy of the Hours as an aid to understanding them in a predominantly Christian way. An ancient tradition provides a model for their use: after the psalm a period of silence is observed, then the prayer gives a resume and

GILOTH, no. 202. In order to receive in our hearts the full sound of the voice of the Holy Spirit and to unite our personal prayer more closely with the word of God and the public voice of the Church, it is permissible, as occasion offers and prudence suggests, to have an interval of silence. It may come either after the repetition of the antiphon at the end of the psalm, in the traditional way, especially if the psalm-prayer is to be said after the pause (see no. 112), or after the short or longer readings, either before or after the responsory.

So, it’s:
  • Antiphon
  • Psalm
  • Glory to the Father
  • Antiphon repeated
  • Optional Silence
  • Psalm-prayer

When we don’t chant the LOTH we use them. We say the psalm prayer AFTER the gloria and BEFORE the antiphone is repeated. This is the way Carmelite communities are instructed to pray.

So, it’s:
  • Code:
    Antiphon
  • Code:
    Psalm
  • Code:
    Glory to the Father
  • Code:
    Psalm-prayer
  • Code:
    Antiphon repeated
  • Code:
    Optional Silence

That’s interesting. I didn’t know that. Is that only true for Carmelites? I know in our Diocese the psalm-prayer is said after the antiphon is repeated.

Ya, that is what I thought. I wondered because I occasionally use the ibrevary app if I’m out and about and they have it before the antiphon, so I wondered if I was doing it wrong. Good to know that I’m not crazy. 😃

Definitely after the Glory to the Father. As to whether you pray it before or after the repeated antiphon is apparently up to the individual or group praying it. In any case, it’s optional and may be omitted altogether. I read it silently after repeating the antiphon.

divineoffice.org also puts it after the Gloria and before the repeated antiphon. I haven’t listed in a while, but I believe Praystation Portable (on SQPN I believe) also does it in that order.

The General Instruction implies it is after the antiphon and Glory to the Father, but when the prayers were printed in the English ICEL edition, they were placed before the antiphon and after the Glory to the Father.
