LOTH, Solemnity of the Archangels

For those cities, states, and particular churches which have one of Sts. Michael, Gabriel, or Raphael as their patron, where do they find Evening Prayer 1 of the Divine Office to celebrate as a Solemnity? In Evening Prayer II, all the Psalmody, antiphons and prayers are proper to the Feast.

That is a really good question and if I were in your shoes, I’d simply say the texts for Evening Prayer II, since there is no Common to fall back on. If you are celebrating in a parish, your pastor might know.

I say this with no authority whatsoever though; I just can’t find a reference for the situation you describe.

In the extraordinary form for the feast of St. Michael, Evening Prayer I is identical to Evening Prayer II except for the last (5th) psalm and antiphon.

Since the general instruction of the LOTH doesn’t cover what should happen in the case of feasts where there would be no common, it seems that, judging from former practice, the best solution would be to use the texts from Evening Prayer II.

I would be inclined to use the common of Saints with the antiphons from Lauds, and the Magnificat antiphon from II Vespers. Your local Ordo might have more specific instructions.
