It’s in the forum rules that a thread that has not been commented on after a certain time should remain as only a readable thread. If you wish to bring the topic up then start a new thread.
I am sorry. I have read, and now re-read the “Forum Rules” page in the upper right hand corner, and do not see this particular rule.

I will cease in any case, and refrain from commenting on older posts.

What exactly would be considered “certain time” that somethng has not been commented on, that you reference above? a day? 2 weeks? a month? Please help!

I am new, and still learning the “ropes” here.

That’s the only question I’ve never gotten an answer from a mod. In general trend here on the TC is 6 months, but one can use the discretion especially if the question has already been answered. If the topic is posted a year prior and a new update comes up then most have no problems with it. But anything that is past over a year is bringing up a dead topic and it is best to just start your own, you will get better fresh answers.

it does seem a little strange that an old thread must not be commented on, yet it is still possible to do so.

Wouldn’t it be a good idea to make it impossible to re-open old threads? Wouldn’t that solve any problem there is with commenting on old threads?

I think that a sticky and a little bit of self-discipline on the posters side could save a lot of moderators time. They are already quite busy keeping our bickering down to civil levels.🙂

From a different point of view, I assume that the automatic closure of a thread after a specific lapse of inactive time could be easily done through software.

BTW To old people like me the year 2005 seems just like yesterday.:o
