Okay, maybe I think too much, but I thought of this today. What if someone follows the laws of the Catholic Church and goes to confession when needed, but does all this because of fear of eternal damnation and not the love of God? Would that person go to heaven upon his death? Would it be possible to do all this and not love God? Personally, I believe it is not humanly possible to be a good catholic (in terms of all one’s actions) and not love God. Abiding by the laws of the church means believing in God, but what if the element of love is missing? Opinions?

I’ll let the words of scripture speak for themselves:

1 Cor 13:1-3
1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
3 If I give away all that I have, and if I give my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.
