To answer your question; Do the scriptures really spend that much time? Or were the instructions but “a (physical) form of the true”, to try to help our young minds understand something far more profound?
Abraham and Job were devout men of God. They were obedient to the religion (the things they were told to do) God established for them…and they were rewarded for their obedience…but did they “get it”? Did they understand the “why” behind all they did for God, or was it just for the results? This was the question raised by Satan concerning Job. So with the prospect of losing what they received (as a result of originally doing what they were told to do; following their religion), would they fall out of love with God? Would they continue to do what God said (as obedience is love)? Do they possess the “why”; the reason that extends far beyond “what” they do? Of course, both showed they had that “why”.
While “what you do” (religion) is incredibly important, “why” you do it is much more important than that.
This is what the Messiah taught, and why the Pharisees, Saducees, and Scribes had such contempt for him; because while they taught “strict” observance to the most ostentatious of religious ordinances, the Messiah taught that it’s what’s on the inside that counts…While never changing a thing, the Messiah simplified what was - over the years - made overtly complicated: From the Ten came the Two…“Do unto others…”, and “whatever you do the least of my breatheren…” this leads to the “why”.
And in the end, it’s going to come down to the Messiah sorting through each of us based on how we treated the least of humanity because such proves where the heart is much more than any ritual.
Indeed. God HIMSELF fulfilled the ritual on behalf of those who showed love for Him so that they themselves didn’t need to.
