What kind of experience do you have to have to work at Lowe’s? I thought about applying there and just wonder what experience I need.

I don’t think any!

Check on age requirements though. Either Lowes, Home Depot (or both) won’t hire under age 18.

well I am 21 so that’s not a worry! lol I wont apply at Home depot because every time I shop at the ones here the employees are rude.

Not that we have a Lowe’s in my area, but just from personal experience when I was your age working in service type jobs - any customer service experience you may have had working elsewhere should definitely be emphasized on your resumé. Perhaps an interest in some types of home renos is an asset too?

In my area, pretty much anyone can get a job at Home Depot - all you have to be is reliable. That is largely in part due to the major labour shortage we are experiencing. Not sure how things are in your part of the country.

Home Depot sucks. From what we have experienced, the employees are unhelpful and rude. Also when we go there we can never find what we’re looking for or they are out of something we need. DH and I only shop at Lowe’s.

the employees at the Home Depots here are the same way!

Depends on what you want to do. If you want to work out on the floor, and operate the lifts and stuff, you’ll need special training. I believe they will train and certify you.

If it’s just working the register, I don’t think you need any experience at all. 🙂

Do you have a specific field of interest? Home decor? Plumbing? Tools? Paint? Lumber? If you know a lot about a certain area, that will help (if you want a job out on the floor), but it’s not necessary.

YES, everytime I go to Home Depot ALL the employees are always rude and never help me find what I need!

I worked at Lowe’s (this was years ago, before I even had bad Home Depot experiences). They give a discount (or at least they did when I worked there) and the pay was really good, I think they started me out at around $8.50 an hour to cashier, not bad considering that this was over 7 years ago 🤷 👍

My brother worked at HD and said they did not give an employee discount.
