so part of my job, I have to read the code of integrity and ethics, which is pretty straightforward for the most part.

however, there was one section that dealt with confidentiality disclosure, which basically means you have to report to them any interests or activities that could cause a conflict of interest with your job. there was also a statement of not criticizing the government publicly or being disloyal if you participate in any sort of olitical activity.

which got me thinking, there are few things as catholics we are certainly at odds with the government with. for example, abortion, euthanasia, gay marriage, ETC…

so do you think stating my opposition to those particular laws could interfere with my job in this case?

You can have an opinion. The government does not want to see it’s employees rioting, burning cars or smashing windows in protest of something or other. They don’t want you to go on a national talk show bad mouthing government policies or endorsing political candidates. You don’t give up your freedom just because you work for the government, however, they can reasonable expect loyalty from their employees.

There are different degrees of opposition.

You can be morally opposed to acts of abortion, euthanasia, and gay marriage. You can work to oppose the enactment of new laws. You can express dissent of existing laws. Any citizen or even a member of parliament could do these things and still love their country and be loyal to the government.

On the other hand, you could interfere with the enforcement of laws. You could criticize the government as an unjust institution. These would probably get you in trouble with your government job.

I think you need to talk to a priest or spiritual director.

They mean in the context of your job. No campaigning at work, no advising people to disobey the laws, etc.
Not in a way to control your thoughts.

no, this was specifically talking about things outside of work.

it didn’t give any examples, so I don’t find it that clear. about what constitutes loyalty or criticism

it only gave examples of things that could cause a conflict of interest in regards to work, such as other businesses that you might run, rental properties, involvement in shares or banks, gambling, sports betting, other expensive assets. since this is the tax department they want to know about those kinds of things

That’s standard.
I work for the Church as you know, and we have to sign a “Morality clause”.
I can’t state my political views on social media, I can’t be FB friends with any kid from my program, I can’t be seen to be flirting with anyone, no matter how harmless, nothing that would bring scandal to the Church.

Focus Angel.
You do what they pay you to do, and you go home and live a just life.
Stop fretting about everything.
