Yes, all 3 motivations satisfy your son’s desire in that example, yet don’t disregard motivation. Motivation is essential.

For example, one day your son may desire something unholy. If you are acting for your son without God, you will strive to help him attain what is unholy, rather if you are acting for God, you will strive to help him abandon unholy desires.
 
I get what you’re saying. But we’re obligated (and accountable) to NOT steer our children away from God. If he ever desired something unholy, I’d have to explain why he can’t have it. Plain and simple. Maybe where I’m confused is the thought process. “Oh, there’s a cool dinosaur. My kid would love that.” And it’s bought. Does the thought process have to be, “Oh, there’s a cool dinosaur! What do you think, Lord? Should I get this for my kid?” Does that make sense?
 
As many have pointed out before, Jesus frequently uses parables to make a point. Many times they include exaggerations to reinforce something.

Here Jesus is pointing out the priority that God should have in our life above everything and everyone, even our family, marriage and children.

Just as when Jesus states “better to cut off our eyes” than enter whole in Hell, he is making a point of the seriousness of eternal damnation.
 
Definitely, one does not want to fall to scrupulosity. And I am not sharing that there needs to be any additional thought process in action. If you know something is holy, no need to think about it, do it for God.

The idea is to make more and more of what you do, until eventually everything you do is done for God and none for others.
