Firstly, the fathers seem to have this idea that Mary would become defiled if she had sex with her husband, Joseph. This makes no sense to me. I was under the impression that sex is perfectly legitimate if done within marriage. How is it that Mary would become impure if she had sex with her husband after the Virgin birth?

Because she was called to a higher role. She was consecrated to God, and something or someone consecrated to God cannot be used for regular use again.

She is also the Ark of the New Covenant. There is an article that breaks down how the Gospel of Luke not-so-subtlely connects Mary with the Ark of the Old Covenant.

I don’t know who wrote it. Usually when I save something (especially from a forum) I try to keep at least their username but I missed it this time. Obviously, it is all in scripture, but someone took the time to compile it.
