How does one get out of lukewarmness?

If you ask me (not being prideful), I’m a Catholic that says 2 rosaries every day, many other prayers, goes to confession weekly and tries his best to avoid mortal sin. Still, after reading some articles, I still qualify as a lukewarm believer.

However, I’m doing this mostly to stay in a state of grace, then after confession, I don’t feel as motivated to continue as I feel that as long as I maintain this grace I’m okay. But I read a few articles up about Revelation 3:16 and it rather shocked me, that Jesus would withdraw his grace from the lukewarm and eventually they would fall out of their state of grace without God’s help

Also, sometimes the idea of prayer seems rather distasteful to me, so whenever I hear about it I sigh and just do it as if it’s something I have to do, rather than doing it out of wilfulness. Something else I’ve noticed that many stated that lukewarm believers will just do the very least and feel that they’ve done ‘‘enough’’ but I just can’t find the zeal to be on fire for the Lord, I look at my other Christian friends and wonder how they can keep this flame alit all the time…

I have hobbies as well, and I love them too but I don’t know if they are taking over my life. I don’t know whether it qualifies as serving two masters. Whenever I think about doing something fun (non-religious hobbies) I always get excited, but whenever it comes to God I just don’t feel that same fire in me. Like, I’m willing to serve Him and all but I’m not zealous at all in my faith. Even in public, I feel shy to make the sign of the cross and sometimes I feel afraid whenever I’m reading the Bible and someone walks past me.

Whenever I ‘‘argue’’ or debate with another person of another religion I sometimes feel I’m doing it out of pride and not solely for the conversion of the soul. That’s why whatever I’m doing I’m in constant anxiety and it gives me headaches and intense chest uneasiness.

I’m not as scrupulous as before and now trust in the mercy of God (thanks to quite a few people on this forum 🙂 [seriously big thanks to all of you I love you :D] ) but I fear whatever I’m doing is contrary to what God has commanded still, possibly due to my lukewarmness.

****In short, I’m just aiming to remain in a state of grace while doing things I still enjoy without being fully zealous for God. How does one get the zeal for God while detaching themselves from the world?

Hello again Rosebud 🙂 , by detaching I mean removing the joy of worldly things (non-religious) apart from God

Yes I thought you meant that but hoped not!

God made the world for us. It is fair and fine and lovely…to be enjoyed and to feed us…

But then I do not see anything that is done and loved and enjoyed by someone who loves Jesus and follows Him as no t"religious"

My own life in old age is very restricted in many ways. I love Jesus with all my heart and soul and yes,my body too…

I am blessed in that my hobbies are used to “feed the hungry and clothe the naked” ir my craft work sells for that work, And in living very simply and frugally and joyfully high and alone on a mountain here.

We can use and enjoy all for the love of Jesus. The world He gave us for those He gave ti for.

You can use what gifts you have; or simply to refresh and strengthen you.

In a very real sense, everthing can be spiritual Ask any nun how mny hours a day she spends in eg houseowrk, cooking, nursing… for the love of Jesus and her Sister.

If you love eg running, swimming, grand. That will keep you healthy… I love driving and enjoy my infrequent outings mightily…

It is undue attachments that are of concern… for me that would ne using precious fuel when I felt lilke going out, not when there was real need

Resolutesheep,

We can use and enjoy the things of the world, as long as we do not allow the things of the world to use us.

As long as the Lord is the focus and the priority in our life.

You’ve got to read Story of a Soul by St Therese of Lisieux, it’s all about trusting in the mercy of God.
You should also read the life of Saint Alphonsus Liguori and some of his writings like
The Practice of the Love of Jesus Christ

See the links that attached on the names of those books and St Alphonsus Liguori
