Update on my rosary praying: I’ve made it to the second decade so that’s cool. I’m not doing it every day but it’s neat. Also lots more prayers for me to memorize lol!

On to the subject, how do you quit lusting/fangirling? I can say oh Tom Hiddleston is a good actor and he’s handsome, but leave it at that. But I never leave it at that. The mind tends to wander into pervy places .

I have the same issue when I have insomnia or trouble falling asleep…mind tends to wander into lustful thoughts.

I love my husband to death and I think my fangirling/lusting got worse after he came out as a porn addict. I was incredibly hurt and wanted to get back at him but have managed to shoot myself in the foot as well.

Any tips, advice, would be great. Thanks!

A lot of it can be physiological. Look for patterns.

Sounds like it kicks up when you’re bored or have unspent energy.

Do you exercise? Are you stressed? Do you have a lot of dead time? If so, a few suggestions:

Burn off excess energy, try to occupy yourself more, increase your prayer life and increase the use of the sacraments/Eucharistic adoration.

Also fasting…abstaining from food/favorite drink etc etc.

This helps trarin your will. If you can say know to what the body wants here…it will help you have more self control over when lustful thoughts come to your mind.

Don’t overdo it, be safe, and only like maybe a couple days a week so you don’t get used to giving something up.

There really isn’t a magic bullet for this, but I’ve really come a long way so maybe I can offer some words to help you.

What worked for me primarily was telling myself I was going to deny my senses. I would avoid those things which would generally speaking cause inappropriate thoughts. Then of course, I had to actually do it. This didn’t take care of thoughts that would arise altogether, but this isn’t a one-front battle. Note that this means you may have to be THAT person who doesn’t keep up on every new TV show or movie. Crazy thing - people really won’t care that you don’t know what’s what with Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones. They’ll tell you that you really HAVE to see it because it’s amazing, but after a while you just sort of smile and thank God you aren’t so addicted to all of the shifting trends of the culture. You may also end up realizing that by not living through TV and movies, you have much more time to live for yourself and accomplish some pretty sweet projects. And then people start wondering how you suddenly became so good at getting things done. I just built a table! Took me two days (it wasn’t a complicated design) and people couldn’t believe I just knocked one out like that.

The second thing I did was attempt to think of something good whenever something bad would enter my thoughts. I have to admit this had mixed results, as sometimes it would seem as though my mind refused to cooperate. Fortunately, it was just one measure in my strategy.

Having learned that my own strength is often insufficient, I began to call upon God in prayer to aid me. Not necessarily to just remove temptations, but to give me the strength to resist them. I would pray to St. Michael when things got particularly crazy in my mind, having the assumption that perhaps the thoughts were not entirely of my own origin at that point. This worked far more than I expected it to. If you think the thoughts are still originating from within you, then perhaps a prayer to St. Raphael, as he is the archangel associated with healing.

Lastly, develop a prayer life. My own efforts at creating a disciplined regimen have been largely poor and yet the benefit I have received has already been great. Also, finding peace in your thoughts is often a long battle. Don’t be discouraged by failure. Just pick yourself up and let God aid you.

Lustful thoughts at night:eek: So you’re young ,healthy and all your hormones are still working as intended.😉 I’d give a lot to have just one of those attributes.😦

You may have an answer in your first paragraph. The Rosary. Take your Rosary to bed with you or, even better get another and keep it under your pillow. Don’t even give the errant thoughts a chance to start. Settle in and say the Rosary, but say it in your mind. Think the words, and as you do think what they mean. Once one has memorized a string of prayers, its all to easy to start saying them orally, and then the mouth goes on auto-pilot while the brain takes a stroll over to the neighbours boudoir. Or even back in time to relive some argument that should have been forgotten years ago, The Little Flower, Sainte Therese, mastered mental prayer to the point that she could pray, and be completely oblivious to anything or anyone around her. I’ve been using the Rosary as a sedative for some time now. It has a calming effect and rarely do I get much past the second decade before falling asleep.

Day time , when you catch yourself having lewd thoughts make the Sign of the Cross and say “Get thee behind me Satan” then force them out of your mind by envisioning something so holy the other image is made ludicrous by comparison. Picture Mary holding the Christ Child, Jesus surrounded by children, Christ on the Cross dying for us, John Baptizing Christ… It will be a struggle because every step you take toward the Church is a step away from the Devil and he will not like it one little bit.

Don’t tell yourself you’re doing this in retaliation, realize that you’re being tempted because at this particular time you are considerably more vulnerable. and what better thing to tempt you with than the very type of images that have caused you such grief… Instead pray for your husband, and his immortal soul. Put a prayer request up on this site for help in this situation, and when I hit the sack myself in a few minutes however many Our Fathers, and Hail Marys it takes to anesthetize me tonight will be in your behalf. I hope everyone else who visits this thread will pray for both of you as well.

Godspeed on your journey to Christ and his Church.
God Bless

I do tend to do it when I’m stressed. Also when I’m trying to fall asleep. That’s kind of depressing thinking about sex helps me zonk lol. 😊

I can’t exercise too well due to health and I have a very stressful life. I’m chronically sick, my husband is, I’m 5,000 miles away from my family and country, etc etc. I’m not good
at dealing with the stress I guess?

Thanks! I am trying to do more prayer stuff and read about Catholicism.

Interesting thing about this. Lots of Protestant Fundamentalists eat lots of junk since they deny themselves everything else. It’s very unprotestant to abstain.

Thanks! : )

Thanks! I never thought of the feelings as I’m healthy with hormones lol! Guess that’s a good sign considering my illnesses and stuff.

Thanks for the help and suggestions! It’s true, the porn addiction I think has bothered me more than I’ve admitted to myself. Thanks for the prayers!

I’ve gone back over the other posts on this thread, and my word you have a litany of troubles to contend with. I make no claims to being a medical professional, but I believe I can detect a hint of depression in your comments. And believe me I have experience dealing With someone who is bipolar. You could be affected by separation anxiety away from home and family, as far north as you, are the days are really short, and you’re likely suffering from light depravation, and you’re having marital issues. Also you’re being plagued with health problems, probably because you’re more susceptible, because of depression. Another aspect is, if you don’t speak the local language somewhat fluently you’re probably lacking a social life as well. It really is no wonder that you’re not handling stress well.

First I strongly suggest that you consult a physician. See if Vitamin D3 will help, and B12 might be in your interest as well. Also there may be some prescribed medication required as well. Light therapy is another distinct possibility. As a matter of fact DO NOT cover your windows while the sun is shining, and make sure all your indoor lights are daylight white if available, and strong enough to simulate daylight inside. There is a direct connection between gloomy places and gloomy people.

Last and certainly not least strengthen your ties with the Almighty. You’ve likely heard about the power of positive thinking??? I prefer to think of it as getting in tune with your Maker. I’m positive God will help. If you can, find a church nearby and start going to mass. There’s no guest list, all are welcome. Stand with the rest of the congregation, sit when they sit, and kneel when they kneel. If you don’t Know the responses just mutter “What they said Lord”, and He’ll know what’s in your heart. You won’t be able to receive communion, but you will receive Gods blessing just for being there. Learn what Saints are the Patrons of your each of your difficulties and ask them for their intercession. See if there is any way you could start personal instructions in the faith where you are. Get with the program girl, there are 1.2 billion of us waiting to welcome you.

Godspeed sister.
God Bless

“Naked honesty” helped me and my wife hash out old ideas and finally got together where my desires didn’t seem like attacks, and her concerns and touchy subjects due to “past life” damaging events, didn’t seem like rejections. It took us years to get to the point we could really discuss even our frustrations about each other, without further pushing each other apart but with real, loving attempts at understanding and empathizing. And it has paid off Big Time. Once we know not only what causes our anxious feelings but why, that gives us power to problem-solve to where we can find ways to help each other without further threat to our own sensitive areas of thought. 👍

Worry more about each other, than what God thinks of your behavior, at least until you understand each other. Than you can work together to find a solution that works for all and is mutually pleasing to God. That may sound backwards, but it’s like practicing our violin parts for a symphony with each other, before getting on stage and performing it for the maestro. According to St. Paul, you each have dominion over your own bodies as well as each other so you ultimately might as well be honest about what the collective “body” wants and how it may at least be internally at peace.

Within a marriage, you are already in a triangle with God at the top, and you and your spouse on either end of the base. The closer you become to each other, the more you can really talk about what you like and don’t like and why without feeling embarrassed or offended, you come closer to God.

Once you are on the “same page” with honesty, even if not with what you like and don’t like, you can work together with two minds, two hearts, and one mission to please God and each other, and have a truly blessed and chaste marriage.

What you are going through now sounds like you’re “boot camp training” as to why just “doing the minimum” is not the ideal of marriage you are called to become! You are lucky that you can see that, and that your faith sees how it can become even better than now.

I hope you find a way to each others’ hearts and become the marriage that convinces you why God chose to make them “man and woman” in the first place. 😉

MS

Edit: check out 1 Cor 7
1 Now in regard to the matters about which you wrote: “It is a good thing for a man not to touch a woman,” 2 but because of cases of immorality every man should have his own wife, and every woman her own husband. 3 The husband should fulfill his duty toward his wife, and likewise the wife toward her husband. 4 A wife does not have authority over her own body, but rather her husband, and similarly a husband does not have authority over his own body, but rather his wife. 5 Do not deprive each other, except perhaps by mutual consent for a time, to be free for prayer, but then return to one another, so that Satan may not tempt you through your lack of self-control. 6 This I say by way of concession, however, not as a command. 7 Indeed, I wish everyone to be as I am, but each has a particular gift from God, one of one kind and one of another.

8 Now to the unmarried and to widows I say: it is a good thing for them to remain as they are, as I do, 9 but if they cannot exercise self-control they should marry, for it is better to marry than to be on fire. 10 To the married, however, I give this instruction (not I, but the Lord): A wife should not separate from her husband 11 —and if she does separate she must either remain single or become reconciled to her husband—and a husband should not divorce his wife.

Whenever you start to think of other men or have impure thoughts call out Mary’s name for as long as it takes and speak with her, imploring her care and assistance. God bless you.

Girl, I feel you … it’s hard not to use the imagination that way.

Something weird for me that helps when things start getting pervy in my head is watching cute kitten videos. Seriously. It just gets me into a different mindset - one that wants to extend myself to love. Especially when you see little kittens being fed from a bottle … oh my goodness. My cold little heart just grows three sizes bigger, like the Grinch 🙂

Lust has a very finite purpose. Love has infinite possibilities. Admiration for Tom Hiddleston born of love can be a fruitful thing, dare I say. But you must allow yourself to see him in a loving way - and your husband as well, if you feel vengeful (have we not all been there?)
But, think higher! Have hope! We were made to love, not lust! Don’t be afraid to go beyond yourself, and accept the infinite of God! (And seriously, cute animal videos might just help 😃

Here’s a great Bible verse:

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”

-Philipians 4:8

You have gotten a lot of good advice; I would just add one thing:

If you find that watching certain films/actors/characters present an occasion of sin for you… avoid them, don’t let them be fresh in your mind when bedtime comes.
