The word and working of God is quite clear; that women were made to be either wives or prostitutes ?

Martin Luther, Works 12:94

Where did you get that reference? I’ll believe Luther said that when I see it in print, in an authoritative text. Not before.

And even if he said that, I would want to see the full context. As Catholics, who have been on the receiving end of this kind of malicious quote-slinging, we should be more careful.

Where can I read Martin Luther’s Works on the internet?

There is not a place to look, I got my quote from Luther’s Works volume 12 at Huntington College where they teach some theology classes. I had heard of this quote so I went searching for it. You will not find it anywhere on the internet. Matter of fact, what Works of Luther’s do you find are very Selective, either being very slanted in the Protestant position or very slanted in the Catholic position.

The American Edition of Luther’s Werkes is 55 volumes, I believe, and not even many Lutheran pastors are able to acquire the whole thing during their lives. I don’t know about this quote - it seems to me not to be quite right. I also would love to see the context, etc.
One of Luther’s most quoted sayings about women comes from his Table Talk - a collection of works from his students and people who heard him lecture, largely second-hand sources. Something to the effect of: “Women…have but small and narrow chests, and broad hips, to the end that they should remain at home, sit still, keep house, and bear and bring up children.”

As far as the Luther quote not being on the internet, if it is not there I doubt that it exists. Luther is everywhere on the internet, in particular because he is so controversial.
