Would you, as a Catholic, knowingly buy something from a Lutheran based company? My intention isn’t to start an argument here, just wondering what your answers might be.

Uh, sure. Why not?

Assuming we are talking about some non-spiritual good, like the mythical widget, why not buy from a brother christian instead of a Godless corporation?

If we are talking about spiritual books, for example, no. I’d buy something that I felt offered me accurate formation about the topic in which I was interested (theology, faith history, patristics…)

Sure! Having a Protestant background, myself, I can attest to the many ways Protestant piety can be used to enrich Catholic piety. Devotional books, artwork and other materials that do not spread error, or at least offer the Catholic viewpoint alongside Protestant views, can be quite enlightening. I would not direct poorly-catechized Catholics to purchase such items though. Protestant items must be used only by a discerning spirit well-formed in the Catholic faith.

My apologies, I should’ve been a lot more specific. As a Catholic, would you knowingly purchase spiritual goods (books, crucifixes, etc.) from a Lutheran based company?

Maybe I’m just a bigot, but I honestly don’t think so. It’s not that I have anything against Lutherans (the ones I’ve known are great people), but for religious things or books I’d prefer to support a Catholic company.

A protestant company making and selling crucifixes would be an interesting phenomenon!

I have no idea what a Lutheran company might be. Do you mean a publisher of books written by Lutherans? Some of the same publishers that put out books by Catholic authors print all kinds of other books. Why would buying a product from a company owned and operated by Lutherans be any different than buying a product from a company owned and operated by pagans, Hindus, or secularists? What is the product? What is its use? Are any moral laws broken in its manufacture and sale? Does the purchase directly enrich another religion at the expense of the Catholic Church? Does purchase or use of the product directly harm the Catholic Church or the individual Catholic?

Manualman, you present yourself as ignorant about the teachings and doctrine of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in your statement. We have the cross and the crucifix on the altar in our churches. The pastor wears a crucifix over his vestments. Maybe if you did some reading about the Lutheran Church you would not being making such stupid satements. I suggest you find a copy of the Augsburg Confession on the internet and read and study it. Maybe you too will realize like the Duke of Bavaria did in the 16th century when it was read to the Emperor Charlies V that the Roman Catholic prelates had been lying about Dr. Martin Luther and the reformed catholic church Luther had purified!!!.

The question of “can” implies a legalistic answer.

Sure, we can. It isn’t illegal, according to the Catechism.

Whether or not you want is a different issue, but I am surprised so many voted no.

OF COURSE you can, it is a matter of personal preference. I’d avoid it myself, but i could if i wanted to.
