Sorry for the ‘God being killed’ - that’s the latent agnostic in me speaking. What drew me to Christianity was that it was the religion of the downtrodden. God as the perfect victim is truly unique and true; it drew my attention!

I don’t think we can trust intelligence, as intelligence has led me to incorrect conclusions agains and again. I think those of us burdened with more brain than heart have to make ourselves open to the Holy Spirit.

That God shepherds His church, there can be no doubt - as we creatures seem to do our best to tear it down. It’s right to give thanks for His perseverance with our bumbling - even those great ecumenical councils hung by a thread, and even some councils like the ‘Robber Council’ got it wrong. So yes, the Holy Sprit preserves His church in the long run, though in the short term we do make a mess of it.

I sent a polite email to the moderator of this forum and vouching that you’re the same gentleman - hopefully me being a Lutheran didn’t diminish your chances 😃

The bible was put together, by Catholic father’s and councils. It decided what books were infallible and should be used. their were several writings of which never made it. Luther kept a lots of Catholic teachings such as the creeds, the keys given to the apostle’s, the Luther church can forgive or retain sins. ( not necessary if Faith and Grace erases all sin past, present and in the future. They also state Catholic believes works are what save us. Not true at all. We believe if we have faith and grace and Baptism and the guidance of the Church, our love for Jesus Christ would be so strong that the Holy spirit would produce works of love. Love our neighbor, help the poor etc. We can not do anything without the grace of Jesus Christ period. The Holy Spirit produces all good in mankind, because Christ died for everyone’s sin. Where in the bible does it says what books belong there? Where in the Bible is the word Bible. Is it Infallible yes, yes, does it make Lutheran confession infallible not for me to judge, my question would be why are there over 2,000 + churches that claim the same thing and they all say it is the infallible bible they founded their church on, but we do not agree with the beliefs of the other churches. Is the Bible all that is needed? I would think we should pray about it and read church history and the Fathers of the church, before we make a thousands more of new churches.
