So much of what be buy today is made in China. The Chinese government has a one-child policy and there are apparently forced sterilizations and abortions. Does anyone have any insight to the moral factors involved in deciding to avoid products made in China? Is there any moral obligation involved or is it a personal decision?
Some of my thoughts:
Cons
I do not want to give money to the government there.
I don’t like to reward business people for using labor from people forced (because of limited economic choices) into oppressive work situations.
Pros?
I consider that perhaps more money into the Chinese economy will lessen poverty there and this may result in less cruelty by the government (even if for the wrong reasons).
I also consider that we Catholics can give money to the Church in China.
Thank You,
