Can anyone recommend any good magazines for teen girls? My daughter is 14 and has friends who are reading Seventeen, YM and the likes. Since these magazines don’t really promote the virtues I’m trying to develop in her, she is not allowed to read them. I’d like to find SOMETHING for her, but don’t even know where to begin looking. Are there any Catholic magazines out there for teens?

Thanks for posting this Kathy. I also have a 14 year old daughter
and have been also looking for a magazine for her. If anyone
has younger children, My Friend magazine which is done by
the Daughters Of St. Paul is very good.

ME TOO ME TOO, I want to know if anyone know of any. I have a soon to be 13 year old. It would be great if there was a magazine similar to those, that still discusses teenage girl issues, but from a virtuous point of view. When she does get her hands on them (I travel a lot and unfortunately daddy lets her have anything she wants, just about 😦 ) I read through them so I can see what her mind has been polluted with, then I sit down and talk to her about it. Unfortunately for them (I have a 15 year old son as well) they both attend public school and get bombarded with all sorts of garbage daily. The best I can do is talk with them morning and night about what they are seeing and hearing. And PRAY PRAY PRAY that the Holy Spirit burns in their hearts and keeps them close to Him.

I don’t know a lot about this magazine but Brio is a magazine created by Focus on the Family and is for teenage girls. Almost every family alternative created by this organization is very trustworthy and a much better alternative than what the secular culture puts out. Obviously, it is not a Catholic magazine, but Dobson’s (Focus) values are much in line with the Church. He is a staunch advocate for life, as well as the biggest defender of true marriage and its benefits - and he cares passionately about children.

You can check it out at www.family.org - left hand column has a link to Brio.

I think this is a great one that I use in my youth ministry. It is called Guideposts for Teens. They even have a website GP4teens.com
Check it out. It has great articles, polls, questionnaires, etc all with a Catholic approach. I know all parens would approve.

Thanks for the suggestions. I remember seeing Brio while we were at the orthodontist’s office and will check that out. Interestingly, as I was doing an online search, I came across this article about Dobson’s “evil link” to Catholicism. Hmmm… wayoflife.org/fbns/dobson.htm

I noticed, also, that there ARE a few online magazines for teens, but I sure hate to give my daughter a reason to hang out on the Internet!

That’s pretty hilarious. Let’s see - which organization would one trust more - the one that condemns Mother Teresa or the one that honors Mother Teresa. Leave it to an anti-Catholic group to be the only ones that would ever condemn this saint. Even atheists like and respect Mother Teresa. I call people like Dobson “closet Catholics”. He is a genuine hero for our time and it is because he stands for the Truth.

My daughter has a subscription to Brio and I have just updated it to Brio and Beyond because she is now 17 years of age. She has read Brio since she was about 13 years old. Although it is a protestant magazine, it is much better than her reading the trash magazines of Seventeen or other culture killers. Contact them by phone at (800) A-FAMILY or the web address is www.briomag.com

Bought it for my daughter too. Keep an eye out for things you might have to clarify.

Guidepost for Teens is another one I have for my daughter but it is NOT a Catholic magazine.
