Magnificat Magazine=Liturgy of the Hours?

Is the monthly publication Magnificat a shortend/streamlined Liturgy of the Hours? It sounds like flows day to day like it, but then again, I’ve never actually seen the LOTH volumes. Anyone?

Well, the readings for each day’s Mass are there. It really depends on if you can afford a subscription I suppose.

I don’t want to discourage anyone from subscribing. They used to offer a sample copy. If they still do, perhaps you can take advantage of that and see if it’s something you will use daily. Also, if there are any Catholic thrift stores in your area, they usually have older copies folks donate. So you could look one over that way as well.

Someone gave me a copy as a gift along with a Rosary when I was received into the church.

I don’t attend daily OF mass so the readings don’t match the EF readings.

However, it has some beautiful reflections.

I might use the one I have to do evening family prayers with my kids although they seem to be allergic to anything Catholic.

In our parish people often leave their old copies in the pamphlet rack. If you want to see a sample look around the back of the church to see if one has been left.

I can’t bear to throw out a Catholic publication; so dump them in the pamphlet rack. Most of them vanish quite quickly. If they are still there in a month or so I get rid of them then. [The pamphlet rack is one of my hobbies. I started it and no one has ever said stop. Our new pastor thinks it is great.]

The shortened offices are not an approved version of the Liturgy of the Hours, so it is not liturgical prayer per se, but is a private devotion.

The Mass texts are approved though so it is a good missal. The only problem I find is that the French version does not follow the Canadian calendar (moved solemnities, Canadian saints, etc.)
