Making a flyer for our church. What should I put on it?

Why not open your kitchen up and feed the people who show up pirohy and other Ukrainian ethnic food?

Pirohy is, for those who don’t know, a dish quite similar to the Polish people’s perogies.

People will show up for food, and it will show your hospitality to your neighbors.

The Ukrainian church on S. 7th Street here in Pittsburgh has been serving pirohy for decades.

I started a thread on the apologetics board asking for Roman Catholics to give their advice. I got a helpful critique and re-wrote it. This takes up the full space allotment. Further critiques are welcomed!

I don’t like wording it as Byzantine traditions as if we are Roman Catholics with funny hats, but I fear that anything more explanatory would be tedious and I don’t have the room for that. Any suggestions on how I can re-word that part?
😃

I think that’s a great re-write! How did it go tonight?

Well! Kids playing in the toy room, food and drinks, tour of the church… We need to work out a few kinks, but I thought it was good!

One thing I now firmly believe: if they already know that we’re Catholic, they don’t need us to tell them. If they don’t know, they won’t believe it if we do.

I’m re-doing that whole page. They don’t need history. I don’t know what I’ll put there instead. I’m waiting for an inspiration.

:rotfl:

Glad to hear that it went well.

I think you’ll find a few who are interested in the history of the UGCC, but it’s not for everyone. Perhaps they would be more interested in personal stories from parishoners that relate to your parish?

Whatever you do, please do it in a manner fully consistent with Ukranian Catholic tradition and faith. There’s nothing more unattractive and, frankly, repulsive about religious advertising than when a church goes with banal slogans without any valuable information and ugly, plain or cliched designs that reek of the mega-church culture. Please, please make beauty and to-the-point yet rich texts the main criteria when creating the flyer. And remember that it doesn’t have to be opulent or expensive to produce to be beautiful and meaningful. The two things unique to Catholicism in the Christian world are its unparalleled beauty and intellectual richness, so please capitalize on those jewels. You mention that the open house is not only intended to be for Catholics, but also non-Catholics. I was a Protestant until last year, and I can tell you that the above-mentioned things, along with a little mystique, are what attracted me most to Catholicism, not random pictures and a superficial display of slogans in tacky alternating rows of bold, underline and italics. Remember: beauty and rich texts. Good luck.

PS: I would offer specifics, but I don’t really know much anything about Ukranian Catholicism.

🙂
