Ok, so basically there is this vice I struggle with a great deal and I want to rid myself of, and theres something out there I want a great deal. Is it ‘ok’ to say to God, if I stop this vice, can I have my request? As always, Thy will be done, and I will stop the vice whether or not He says yes, or no, but is there something ‘blasphemous’ about making a pact like such with God? Thanks:thumbsup:

Not blasphemous, but there are very few people in history (Moses being the only one I can think of offhand) who’ve ever successfully bargained with God. I’d say it’s highly likely to be ineffective. Just keep requesting your favour and battling your vice without linking the two.

Agree!

An man once made a bargain with God, I think it was that if he survived a storm he would become a monk.

He survived and eventually was ordained an Augustinian priest. His name was Fr Martin Luther.

When you ‘make a pact with God’, remember that you are not getting an agreement to it from God…and the devil is listening!
