Here’s my dilemma:
I am trying to pray the Rosary daily. I find it very inspiring and one of the best ways of meditating. However, I don’t have a Rosary, nor the skills to make a fancy one (like this:

How can I make a more simple, but still beaded (not the knots of twine) Rosary that I can use?
Also, can I have my Rosary blessed (I am not Catholic…yet)?
Thank you so much!
I actually helped make a few simple, wood-beaded rosaries for a play last year. It was fairly simple:
Purchase some wooden beads and hemp twine (or other strong twine) at a craft store. You will want at least one that is a different size, or a medallion or similar object to serve as the junction of the circle.
Purchase a crucifix at a religious store, or make one yourself.
Cut yourself a piece of twine that is a good three feet long (you’ll trim later).
Tie a knot about a foot from one end of the twine. String 10 beads, and then tie another knot.
Tie another knot about half an inch away from the last. String one bead, and tie a knot behind the solo bead.
Tie a knot about half an inch from the last. String 10 beads, then tie another knot.
Repeat the previous steps until you have five sections (decades) that go knot - 10 beads - knot - space - knot - bead - knot - space.
After the fifth decade, run your loose ends through the larger bead. Tie knots on both sides of the large bead.
Trim one of the loose ends of your twine below the large bead, so you are left with a beaded circle and an unbeaded length of twine sticking out of the large bead.
Space about half an inch from the large bead and tie a knot. String one bead, then tie a knot.
Space half an inch, then tie a knot. String three beads, then tie a knot.
Space half an inch, tie a knot. String one bead, then tie a knot.
Space half an inch. Tie your crucifix to the twine at this spot. Trim the excess twine.
That should work. It may not look beautiful, but it is simple, sturdy, and sort of elegant in its archaic design. I see no reason that you would be unable to have it blessed. I think, in the interest of showing good faith, it would be best to tell the priest that you approach that you are not Catholic, though.
Peace,
