I think, existentially speaking, a healthy mind desires the absolute fulfilment of his or her nature.

I think that because this is natural to us all that it is not unreasonable to think that such an end actually exists.

We don’t know what it is (prior to reason or experience), but i think in general, that is what we all want.

But how would one, using reason alone (presupposing no religious faith), determine the difference between a false idol and the real thing?
 
Good question.

We might also have to consider what we would need to reject in order for this self fullfilment to occur. For example, how much time from my family can I justify in doing a course on philosophy? Or learning the piano?

One could jump into Socrates and see how Reason (Reasoned Discussions) itself led to Understandings…
