What are some spiritual practices, devotions, novenas ,charitable works etc that you would like to accomplish during this new year of 2018? How are you going to try and improve on this past year?
Looking forward to hearing on your ways of growing as a Catholic šŸ™‚

I read the Bible everyday, but I want to get into the New Testament. Because the Old Testament is so long, that it takes up most of my Bible reading. Nothing wrong with it, I like reading a lot of the Old Testament, but, if you want to know scripture, you have to know all of it. Iā€™ve read the New Testament about 3 or 4 times all the way through, and Iā€™ve read the Old Testament all the way through twice, and Iā€™ve read the Bible all the way through once, but Iā€™m doing it again and right now Iā€™m in Galatians 2. I really want to focus on the New Testament more, I mean other than my favourite books of the Bible, which are the Gospel of John, and the Book of Revelation.

More daily Mass. I find that I get more from that than anything else.

I find reading the New Testament so much easier than the Old Testament. The Torah especially to me is really tough going. The Psalms, Job, Proverbs, Prophets I just love. Kings, Samuel, I also really struggle through those - painful if I am truthful. The New Testament just goes down like milk compared to that. I feel very at home. And it always renews my faith - keeps me focused; it reminds me of the parts of the faith I am wont to neglect, restores balance to all Christians, regardless of their natural bent. Mercy, justice, all that. And of course it is so easy to get distracted/undermined in the culture we live in. The New Testament is the best thing a Christian can read.

I bought this huge set of early Christian writers - it was discounted, great deal. Volumes and volumes and volumes. May take me awhile but Iā€™ve no doubt I will read them all.

I want to try and make the Divine Mercy Devotion every day at 3pm. I use to but then I would get tied up with different things, There is a catholic nursing home close by and I would like to volunteer some time when my kids are in school I also want to get on with my life, after loosing my husband, itā€™s hard but weā€™ll make itā€¦ Please remember me in your prayers. God Bless:šŸ¦‹šŸ¦‹

I have a plastic case that I have many of my little prayers and prayer booklets in that I just re-organized, and I recently found one of my Chaplets that I was looking for, and one of the leaflets that I would need to pray with it.

Itā€™s the Chaplet of the Holy Spirit.

So, I would like to pray with some of the Chaplets that I have here at home, and also read more of my Bibles, too.

I usually will read Scripture passages on-line, but I have several Bibles here that I honestly donā€™t make enough use of, including my One Year Catholic Bible, so I think that that would be a good thing to keep in mind, and a good goal to have for this coming year. šŸ™‚

I hope that in 2018 I can:
  1. Knuckle down to some studying of the faith.
  2. Pray for more help in adjusting to our new priest.
  3. Take on board and act on the recent advice about the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

  1. Being confirmed into Roman Catholic Faith!!
  2. Finish reading Catechism
  3. Finish reading Diary of St. Faustina
  4. Pray Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet, daily
  5. Divine Mercy Novena
  6. Feed the hungry, clothe the naked, etcā€¦

I remembered the advice of sister Franсiska on this forum. I was asking about the material help for others, about philanthropy towards another family, while neglecting the responsible actions towards my self.
She gave the example of an employee in the office who was asked to do some work and only after finishing it , you can help other work colleagues.
The Bible has an interesting verse- ā€œsome one teaching others and to himself is useless(worthless)ā€.
Today there are a lot of pseudo-philanthropists who want to save the world but neglecting- to build a family, children, service, responsibility, their own family prosperity, and many other personal responsibilities before themselves.
I remembered the words of an old pastor evangelist, who on the rebuke in the absence of evangelization replied that to evangelize we must first ourselves, and only then the others.
I think that in these words there is wisdom.

Currently my goals are:
  • pray for a word that should guide me through the year.
  • learn all about one particular saint, and journey through the year with them.
  • to pray the Jesus prayer 50 times a day.
Thatā€™s all! šŸŒ·
