NEW YORK (Reuters) - A Delaware judge on Friday ordered a man who twice exposed himself to a 10-year-old girl at his workplace to wear a T-shirt with the words: “I am a registered sex offender” in bold letters, a prosecutor said.

Russell Teeter, 69, who pleaded guilty to two counts of indecent exposure, also was sentenced to 60 days in jail by Superior Court Judge Jan Jurden in Wilmington.

Deputy Attorney General Donald Roberts said he requested the unusual T-shirt punishment because he was concerned about Teeter exposing himself to children at the gardening business he runs with his wife.

10 Prior convictions?! A “compulsive exhibitionist?” Sorry judge, a T-Shirt doesn’t do it for me! It’s already cold, who is going to see the T-Shirt? How about a sign from the judge and/or police at the entrance to this gardening business?

I’ll be taking my wife and 2 girls out to look for Christmas trees in about a month. Isn’t it great to know this judge has not really protected them. We’re in Wilmington
every year for a concert, not that we’ll buy a tree there, but jeez!
If he can’t stop himself, he’s got to be taken off the streets.

The modern day equivalent of “sack-cloth and ashes?”
More like the modern-day equivalent of the Scarlet Letter (for those familiar with the book) - or the brandings that used to be done of prisoners - T for thief and so on.

Don’t really know that this will do too much good for anyone concerned.

They reported a sex offender at Chuckie Cheese(small children amusement center where they stamp hands, etc.). He was wearing an electronic ankle bracklet that was suppose to monitor him but that didn’t help.

I don’t care if he’s 90, he should have gotten jail time. They can bump, fondle and expose themselves, preying on children and we are suppose to feel sorry for them.

60 days in jail? That’s not enough. He needs at least 2 years in jail + mandatory counseling.

The Iowa Sex Offender Registry is an online mapped database which is freely available to the public. All convicted sex offenders are required by law to report their address to the state, which maintains the database.

Its a way for the public to search the area around their home, school or other site for where sex offenders live. It includes a mugshot of the person.

Perhaps this would be a bit better than requiring the man to wear a t-shirt. Certainly the database is not considered punishment, but comes in addition to the criminal sentence.
